Argyle 2 Crawley Town 2

Old habits cost The Greens again.

Plymouth Argyle were left disappointed as they conceded an injury time equaliser, to a Crawley Town side well worthy of their share of the spoils.

The game started later than usual, 8:15 to be exact, as traffic on the Tamar Bridge left many fans delayed.

The delay seemed to transfer over to the players, as Argyle really struggled to get any sort of foothold in the game.

Loose passes were too frequent in the first half as every player looked a yard behind the pace.

A statement summed up by the nature of Crawley’s first goal.

A clearance by Scott Wooton hit the back of fellow defender, Niall Canavan. The resulting deflection was not held onto by Alex Palmer, which allowed his name sake and Crawley front man, Ollie to slide in and get his 10th of the season.
The next 15 minutes followed much of the same path, as lapses in concentration very nearly cost Argyle a second time.

Despite Argyle’s loose play, they did create enough chances to deserve a goal themselves.

In particular, a great save from Crawley Keeper Glenn Morris denying Striker, Ryan Hardie his fourth goal in as many games.

They were rewarded for the chances they did create one minute before the 45, when Antoni Sarcevic burst into the box, and was fouled for a penalty.

He, coolly slotted the spot kick down the middle to level the scores, 1-1 at half time.

Again, for most of the second half Argyle weren’t at their fluent best as the defence looked nervy, midfield not winning second
balls and strikers feeding off scraps.

Argyle loan signing Tyreeq Bakinson, struggled to make the impact of recent games as he was pushed forward in the absence of the injured Danny Mayor.

Mayor, who was not in the squad after picking up an injury in training, has received much criticism at times for his performance levels from some fans.

Whilst his stats this season haven’t managed to reach the levels of last season under Lowe at Bury, his quality is evident. Linking up play in the midfield, whilst using his ability to pull players out of position, sometimes several to create space for other players.

He has created 55 clear cut chances for his teammates this season, and when he is not in the side, the overall quality of chances decrease.
George Cooper for example, looked to be missing a link up on the left side, so often created by Mayor therefore not being as effective himself.

For the last fifteen minutes of normal time, Mr versatile,(or Byron Moore as he is better known), moved to right win back in a tactical switch which saw Joe Edwards replaced by Luke Jephcott.
This gave argyle more attacking intent, as Moore was able to use his pace and what seems like everlasting stamina to take on tired defenders.

As a result, Argyle scored their 2nd goal after 83 minutes when Jeffcott latched on to a pinpoint Moore cross to send Home Park delirious.

However, the opponents would have the last laugh as Argyle’s sporadic defensive fragility would harm them again in the second second minute of injury time.
A free kick was floated into the area, and after a height miss match at the back post between Argyle players Gary Saywer, and Joel Grant, Defender Jamie Sendles- White headed back across the six yards box, to leave Ollie Palmer with the easiest of tap ins for his 2nd of the game and 11th of the season.

So, another 2-2 draw against Crawley, and their 5th 2-2 draw of the season, and each time very preventable.
Is it time to panic? Absolutely not. We have been on a great run of form, and playing some of the best football I have seen in my time of watching The Greens (not to mention the team spirit).

After a great run of results, this is a minor blip (and we didn’t lose!)

But, after getting themselves in a great position Argyle will not want to let it slip.

Especially with games against Crewe, Colchester and Bradford to come next month, it could be make or break.

Strap in and get ready for the ride Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s going to get interesting!

That report is pretty spot on. More reasoned than many of the regular reporters on here who for example blame the ref every week.
