18/19 - 3rd place promoted on 79 points.
17/18 - 3rd place promoted on 84 points.
16/17 - 3rd place promoted on 85 points.
15/16 - 3rd place promoted on 85 points.
14/15 - 3rd place promoted on 85 points.

We sit on 54 points at the moment with 17 games to go.

10 wins out of 17 should do it.

Let's see where we are after the next 3 games. Colchester away, Salford away and Crewe home. Get through them relatively unscathed and we'll be in a great position but they'll be tough. Got a feeling we're gonna miss Sawyer's presence at the back.

I just wonder if a slightly higher points total might be required this season. Most seasons there’s a runaway one or two teams, then a gap. At the moment it feels much more competitive throughout the whole top quarter. Nice to see the Urns dropping, but they’ve got a fair strength in depth, so I expect them to rebound unfortunately.

Swindon, us & then Northampton or Crewe as the top three i reckon.

Far too early to make predictions. Any team could still hit a good or bad patch and change the whole scenario.

Bradford look out of it and their fans are in meltdown.

Two away hammering of 3-0

Northampton look the team to gatecrash the top 3 so us Top,then Swindown Town and Northampton Town in that order :scarf:

Fully agree. These three games are going to be tough. I'm going to be realistic and would be happy with 4 points from these three.

After last seasons meltdown where we needed just 4 points out of 24 :furious: I don't do predictions anymore.

Can't see this squad fading under the pressure but we did last season and look how Pompey came up on the rails and we rolled over in our last promotion year.

Lots of games to go but enjoying football again which is a huge bonus

Over the past 10 seasons, 86 points has always guaranteed promotion, and an average of 83 points is usually enough, although Accrington (2015-16, 85 points), Wycombe and Southend (2014-15, both 84 points) and Southend (2011-12, 83 points) missed automatic promotion.
On that basis, 10 more wins and a couple of draws should be enough (or 9 wins and a handful of draws!).

Agree that it's still a bit early to tell.. some hard games ahead, but looking promising in current form.

As the table stands 83 would be sufficient but with Northampton or another continuing their good form that could well increase to the usual 85/86 total. As we are a team not drawing many games I think we will be OK.
Far too early really for predictions but my thoughts at this stage are Swindon, Argyle and Northampton or Crewe for automatic with Exeter ,Colchester and Cheltenham making up the play offs.

Not exactly a prediction. Just saying that we'll need 30 more points to go up automatically.

No team 'hitting a good patch' is going to change the fact that you'll need about 85 points to go up.

To get promoted you only need 1 point more than 4th place. So applying that to the last 5 seasons, these number of points would have been enough:

2019 77
2018 81
2017 78
2016 85 (3rd & 4th had equal points)
2015 85

I think 82 should be enough this year.

Not going to win every game but i think we'll be just fine.

It is not a fact. 85 points SHOULD be enough but there are no guarantees.
