Just back

...to The Northern Quarter anyway.

What a roller coaster. First half goal probably undeserved but we were against a string wind - which unhelpfully dropped at half time. Defensive frailties very evident, Salford’s super sub scored twice in ten minutes after coming on, with a Sarcevic cracker in between. Argyle finally woke up with ten to play, and our own super sub wins it at the death. Great goal. Superb support.
MOM Bakkinson, Sarcevic a close second. Brilliant! :scarf:

From what I could tell from ifollow the wind helped us 1st half with Salford continually overhitting the ball.

Not the greatest football match, but there was a bit of drama for the neutral, some short lived hope for the Salford few and three points for us !

The pitch was poor and the wind made it difficult for both sides right through the 95 minutes. Canavan was having a sterling game at the back for us.

The first half was fairly even with neither side doing much. We took the lead when Kyle Letheran spilled a shot and Byron slapped it back in the net.

In the second half, Salford brought on the Manure forward James Wilson. He scored with his first touch. I think Palmer could have been at fault but not sure at it was up the other end.

Then the Manchester Messi belted us back in the lead with an unstoppable shot, which followed two earlier unstoppable shots which Letheran … stopped.

Before the celebrations died down Wilson scored with what was probably his second touch. I think Bakinson lost possession to let them in.

We brought on Josh Grant. I thought this was a stick rather than a twist at 2 v 2. However Lowe brought on Hardie and well "kiss me Hardie" scored the winner with what looked like a deflected shot in injury time and the Argyle fans, who had already gone ballistic twice before went even more ballistic.

Through snow, hail and a very cold wind, Argyle got the points and the celebration at the end was almost promotion party-like.

Huge three points as everyone else around us seemed to win tonight.

I think that there's more advantage playing into the wind as it can hold the ball up for you, especially if your preferred tactics involve lumping the ball into the channels. Having said that, he wind behind you must help the occasional 35yrd screamer go in.

Great comeback after Saturday.
Shocking home attendance and how can Colchester sweep us aside then lose at home to Grimsby, must have been a one off from both sides Saturday then..

Well that ended up as a thrilling end to end game and 3 important points.

Night started with a recall for Macfadzean on left side of back three and Hardie replaced up front by Moore as Edwards returned at RWB. Salford had couple of man mountains one at CB one in front three. A cold, wintry night with fierce wind blowing into Argyle's faces first half. The game was no better than the weather early on and the Salford front three were threatening. We didn't really getting going with passes going astray in the wind. Salford had ball in net but Palmer had been fouled. Then we scored rather unexpectedly. Sarce crossed into box, Moore first attempt was mishit but no mistake with second effort and Letheren was picking ball from his net.

Mayor and Sarce both booked after Mayor fouled on edge of area and players from both sides involved in bit of handbags.. Half time arrived with no hint of drama to follow.Argyle started with some pressure second half but Salford retaliated and scored after a ball to the far post saw sub Wilson's header beat Palmer although he got hand to the effort.

Argyle pressed again and after a spell of dominance Sarcevic smashed a volley into the corner from the edge of the box. Great celebrations followed but within 90 seconds it was 2-2 as Wilson shot home from edge of box into bottom corner.

From here on it was end to end, Argyle looked vulnerable as Salford broke at pace although we were after a winning goal too with two or three lively goalmouth scrambles. 5 added minutes were announced and suddenly "super sub" Hardie tricked his way into the home penalty area beating couple of defenders before slotting home. Superbly taken and more fantastic celebrations in front of the GA.

In summary it could have ended 4-4 as both sides went for the win second half.

Palmer 7
. Wootton 6
Canavan 6
Macfadzean 7 - happy to join in forays forward and defended well

Edwards 7 welcome return looked energetic and had good game
Cooper 6 not at influential best
Sarcevic 8 very involved great goal nearly had two goals to his name
Mayor 7 one silky touches never quite got the final ball right
Bakinson 7 better 1st half seemed less comfortable 2nd half after Salford increased pressure on us

Jephcott 7 battled hard against big centre half held ball.up well against strong opponent
Moore 7 ended playing at LWB but some lovely touches as striker and opened scoring

Subs Hardie 7 what a super goal to win the game - classy finish

Joel Grant 6 - did ok as he replaced Jephcott and ran the channels

Josh Grant n/a - short cameo - seemed like we were bringing him on to protect point but Hardie gave us a three.

That was manic and a steward was even escorted from the ground which is pretty unusual at an Argyle away game to cheers of your getting sacked in the morning ! God knows what he did but the fans were brilliant tonight and great scenes at the end when we knocked it

It's about points now but personally thought we were two long today
Thought Mayor looked good but thought Backinson looked sloppy at times sarce MOM for me and praise also for Edward's, Moore & Jephcott who all worked hard

Come on boys we can do this!!

Just seen the highlights; Hardie's goal was superb.

3 points on a Tuesday night in February in a GNS.
Successful seasons are based on nights like this.

Thanks for the reports.

Credit to McFadzean for lasting 90 minutes after being out for so long and playing in an unfamiliar position.

The top four are now pulling away so it's looking like three teams from four for automatic promotion and we play two of them at home.

Everything can change for any team with a couple of defeats. Still a long way to go....

It looked like Moore just didn't time it correctly with the first goal and the ball got stuck under his feet before he recovered and stuck in the net after the keeper had committed. I'm pretty sure the keeper made no save but stand to be corrected.

From the highlights Canavan is clearly angry with Palmer for the first goal. Great run and finish from Hardie - from the description I expected a lucky deflection but that was a quality striker's goal.Looked a great turnout from the GA. :nworthy:

I wont say it was a lucky deflection but from the ifollow feed it looked like Hardies shot was along the ground but the defender slid in and the shot deflected up over the defender and then over the goalie.
