Darragh MacAnthony has been responding to Argyle fans on twitter with regards to Argyle keeping hold of George Cooper. He has stated that the option to buy no longer exists, that they paid £350k for him so would be looking to recoup that plus more anyway and indicated that he was maybe part of the squad plans at Peterborough next season.

Make of that what you will.

Seems to be a lot of crossed wires with this Cooper deal. The Posh Chairman has said a couple of times that the option to buy him was for the Jan transfer window only. Whereas Lowe seemed to think the option was available until the end of the season. Would be interesting to know who’s correct.

I assume our ability to buy him has gone out the window anyway with the current situation

Paid 350 grand and wants to make more than that, seems likely to be around £500,000, way too much.

Cooper is great, but currently not good enough to make our first XI in his natural position and would be exposed defensively at LWB a league higher. Sadly if those are the fees involved, we would be crazy to go anywhere near it.

I agree a fee of £500,000 is way too much to pay for Cooper. He’s good but not that good. He has areas of his game he needs to improve if he wants to be a top end league 1/lower championship player. I’d say £250,000 is more realistic.

Surely there’ll be very few EFL clubs able to manage any sort of fee for players after a minimum of six months with no income.
