Did raise this point in the iFollow thread, but is there any merit in the (possibly extremely naive) idea that clubs could make as much money from streaming as physical tickets?

It’s at least fair to assume that you’re suddenly getting £10 a game from a few thousand fans who normally wouldn’t have made it on a matchday. Especially Argyle with a big exile following.

And this weekend in particular, Blackpool would have brought 500-ish fans? But presumably most of their 10,000ish following would now want to stream that game.

Catering, hospitality and retail is obviously another kettle of fish, but will be fascinating to see what the virtual ticket income is.

I think it's possible that far more away fans might stream games than would have actually attended them. I try to go to a few away games each season but I can imagine now that I will stream quite a few of them if the opportunity is there.

The club will certainly be getting more income from me. I would usually only get to a handful of games this season and most matches, such as this weekend's, I would listen to on iFollow using my £45 season-long audio pass. I've already spent my £10 to live stream on Saturday and plan to do the same for future matches more often than not. I expect this season Argyle will end up getting 2 or 3 times as much income from me as in previous recent seasons (although the actual total I spend will be less as I won't be doing any travelling!).

As mentioned above it'll be very interesting to see the income generated over these first few games - it may be quite substantial.

Also the online traffic for Saturday's match thread should be pretty high . People normally at the game being at home with an internet connection, and people not normally at the game being able to see it

Let's hope iFollow can cope!

Wont the away fans go on and pay at their own site?

To me its a positive with the news this week they are still willing to allow 1000 in. If we could get that at start of October it would help with some sort of atmosphere and build from there.

Yes, they would. You could have a few thousand Blackpool fans watching and Argyle wouldn’t get that money.

On the other hand though Argyle will have thousands buying streams for our away games that they usually only get a small % of ticket revenue for. Argyle will probably make considerably more than they normally would for away fixtures.

I thought that all money generated by iFollow went into a pot and shared out between all clubs in the division.

Surely there is some algorithm for splitting the revenue from away fans between both clubs so that even if it mostly goes to the home club (as it all would with real tickets) some would come to the away club? I think I remember reading about this somewhere.

Yeah Hallett's latest update said something about an expected away fan volume goes to the home club then the surplus goes to the away.

How they work the expected bit out is beyond me.

The Doctor wrote: Hospital admissions and deaths have started to show the expected rises now, following on from the rising number of cases in recent weeks. Government will have to place absolute priority on keeping schools as open as possible which will mean pubs, restaurants and other non-essential businesses having to be restricted as has just happened in Bolton. I think the question to ask as far as football is concerned is not when we might be back in grounds again but, rather, whether clubs and squads can remain free enough from the virus to avoid massive disruption to fixtures and/or temporary cessation of the season.

Test positives have increased (though you have to take into account false positives on an unreliable test) but not deaths or hospital admissions. There is no excuse not to let outdoor events take place.
