Looks like he’s on the bench ...

It’s Bosnia 0-0 Wales after 24 mins. Maybe Luke will get a chance to get on in the 2nd half...

Pity to take the whole week away from our preparations, go all that way, get 10 mins on the pitch, and miss our opening game of the season.
Looks like a coach who either doesn’t realise what he’s got there (he had several days to be impressed by Luke), or doesn’t know how to use subs; or maybe both of these things - 10 mins indeed...!
Maybe he’ll turn down the opportunity if selected for under-21’s again, some probably would.

Welcome to the world of international football. Fans of Premier League clubs will be very used to that scenario and some are dead against England for precisely that reason.

There are international games in October and November so if selected he will miss the Burton and Portsmouth games, although with Portsmouth having several international call ups that match could be postponed.

In Jamie Carragher's book, he mentioned having a career full of it. Selected by England for friendlies, qualifiers and tournaments, but essentially an unused sub most of his England career.

Then he retires around the age of 30 and gets called a gutless traitor who doesn't want to fight for his place by the press.

I am just commenting on the frustrating nature of international football, especially for the lesser involved players in the background.

All the way to Kiev for a long weekend, replaced at club level (and often find yourself out of the team when you return) only to come on at 3-0 down and run around for 5 minutes in vain. Then come back tired and slightly jetlagged for training the next week and realise Nouble has scored 2 while you were away and is starting the next game.

It is the other side of international commitments that players aren't really allowed to discuss their feelings on without being labelled unpatriotic and pampered, etc.

Jephers may well really want to play for his country, but what amazes me is how an international manager can leave a game-changing player like him on the bench while his team is drawing then give him ten minutes at the end when they go behind with fifteen to go, having had him there all week to supposedly assess what he can do.

Carragher never lost his club position by being called up though as Liverpool never played the same time as England. I’d do find it hard to understand his comments about caring about playing for Liverpool more. Playing for your country has always been, and always will be, the pinnacle of the sport.
