You've cracked it Gary S! I was just about to move in to clue mode but I'll wait a while now.

This one has definitely run out of 'time added on' even by Wycombe standards!

Gary S guessed that it had something to do with the 4-4 draw at Wimbledon which had me wondering on how many other occasions Argyle had been involved in 4-4 draws in the League. I stopped looking after I found the 4th example!

So here they are and you can see that one list involves the teams Argyle played immediately before the 4-4 draw and the other list comprises the teams played immediately after.

Season 33-34 Man Utd 4-0 West Ham 4-4 Bolton 0-2
Season 36-37 Doncaster 7-0 Bradford City 4-4 Coventry 0-2
Season 70-71 Gillingham 2-1 Shrewsbury 4-4 Chesterfield 0-2
Season 85-86 Swansea 2-0 Cardiff 4-4 Notts County 0-2

All these 4-4 draws were at home - the pattern of win - 4-4 - lose 0-2 was worrying but they managed to put that to bed with the draw against Shrewsbury.

Are there any other 4-4 draws lurking in the archives?

PS Apart from Golden Hindhead who was watching the match with me does anybody remember the 4-4 draw with Fulham Reserves in the early 60's when It was 4-0 to Argyle at H-T before Scottish international Graham Leggett scored 4 in the second half to level it up?
