If I've done the sums correctly then Luke Jephcott has 8 League goals from 17 starts. If he can get to 10 from 20 he'll be in pretty good company on the games/10 goals stakes.

Jack Leslie 35
Tommy Tynan31
Sammy Black 29
Jack Vidler 23
Wilf Carter 22
Fred Binney 21
Paul Mariner 20
Billy Rafferty 19
Mike Bickle 19
Maurice Tadman 17
David Kemp 16

But who was the former England International with top flight experience who scored his tenth goal for Argyle in only his eleventh game?

Has to be Jack Cock. A cornishman born in Hayle. A prolific goalscorer. It makes you wonder why we ever sold him.
Well worth a Google. As well as being a good footballer he was a military hero and a film star !!

Taking the England International as a full International myself, so think Cock and Hall would be ruled out with that interpretation.

Bowden could well be right. If only the clue has said whether he later owned a sports shop in our city. :scarf:

Bowden played for England after he went to Arsenal. Brian Hall is a Scot

I would go with Jack Cock but reckon he did it in 7 games

SOUTHEND UNITED 6 2 Leslie, Cock (3) Black, Corcoran
CRYSTAL PALACE 6 2 Cock (2) Leslie (2) Forbes, Black
Norwich City 3 0 Leslie, Black, Cock
MILLWALL 2 0 Cock, Leslie
Northampton Town 1 2 Black
BRENTFORD 4 0 Black, Cock, Corcoran, (og)
ABERDARE ATHLETIC 7 2 Pullen, Forbes, Cock (2) Corcoran, Leslie, Black

But they weren't his first 7 games. That was the start of 1925-26 but he also played 10 times in 1924-25.

First of all I must thank Steve at Greens on Screen for taking the time and trouble to check my stats - I got things wrong as follows...

Tommy Tynan 30 not 31
Billy Rafferty 24 not 19
Maurice Tadman 23 not 17
Fred Binney 19 not 21

.....so many apologies!

I was pleased to see that I had got it right for the answer which is Jack Cock. I wanted a question to highlight Jack Cock since he was the first Argyle cigarette card I collected when Collectors Fairs were anywhere and everywhere - Jack Cock and Moses Russell were in almost every set on offer!
