Yep.

Fornah needs a rest now. He has been in great form but he was lacklustre and ordinary against Rochdale.

Would love to see Mr Macleod back and available right about now.

Maybe Mayor will give Reeves a bit of movement to play off because it was too sideways too often from him tonight.

I am still undecided on Nouble. Others seem to think he has had a fantastic game when I am scratching my head as to what he actually did that was of any impact. Hardie for me is the most dangerous striker at the club, and he isnā€™t going to find his scoring streak by sitting on the bench.

I will say it until lm blue in the face like a smurf ....

You canā€™t take the **** playing non specialist people at wing back.

Edwards, Moore and Cooper have good attributes that would create a perfect wing back

1. Moore has the pace. Lacks the quality of final ball

2. Cooper (sometimes) has the delivery. Yet lacks defensive awareness. Which is why any time you see Argyle under the cosh he is taken off

3. Edwards has the awareness of players. He has linked a couple of times with Hardie beautifully. However, itā€™s too infrequent. You have to go up and down that touchline constantly and lā€™ve never seen him do this for more than a half.

These are good players. They just arenā€™t wing backs. Itā€™s one of the hardest positions to find good players because you need energy, stamina, pace and be able to produce a cross on a consistent basis because essentially your the width on that side of the pitch for the team.

When you donā€™t have width you become predictable. And the reason we need Mayor is that he provides the width to stretch the opposition. Yet Lowe play him in CM which means there is a gapping hole in midfield and we become left side of the pitch lopsided.

Thatā€™s why tonight we were particularly awful. No Mayor. The wing backs couldnā€™t provide the width he normally does.

Basically it doesnā€™t matter what team Lowe picks. Argyle will continue to struggle overall with this current crop of players playing this system. Reasons are as follows

1.) No pace in the back 3 leaves us constantly vulnerable to the counter attack. Essentially you only need to sit back like Fleetwood & Rochdale and in numbers counter attack when we give the ball away.

2.) The system is fundamentally flawed with the players he picks for the positions on the pitch. Itā€™s going to be a long slog of a season unless he changes his tactics and lm not sure he will.

Itā€™s like we know how important Mayor is but that playing him at CM is too the detriment of the rest of the team and we donā€™t see it. Tonight showed how badly we need him but at CM we just not helping the balance of the team.

I have no idea why he is against 433.

For me it seems simple. Mayor plays left wing. Cooper plays right wing. You choose between one of Hardie/Jephcott/Nouble.

Behind the forward you play Camara. Behind him you play Edwards & Fornah. I would put Macleod in when he is fit again for Fornah. At right back Byron Moore as l canā€™t think of any natural right back. At left back Opoku. In the middle Watts and Aimson.

You then a balanced team. Width in attacking areas where your most skilful players donā€™t have to do as much defensive work. You have two quick full backs who can support. You have midfielders who can pass the ball but the best thing is that you have Camara running from deep positions. Iā€™ve seen him now numerous times and the guy is a real handful.

Anyhow, Lowe seems stubborn and so l imagine back to 3-5-2 it will be with us as fans hoping that Ipswich miss the good opportunities they will no doubt be gifted.

100% behind Lowe. He needs though to now show he can tactically evolve as a manger. Adams couldnā€™t do it. It was constantly 4-2-3-1 with the forward isolated. Will Lowe go the same way and not adapt? Adams had four years. Lowe needs at least another year so we have to be patient and see. I really hope he does and comes through this season having developed tactically because l think his positive approach is a breath of fresh air.

The issue with the defence (as well as them not playing that well individually right now) is lack of protection in front, not behind. Cooper hasnt been brilliant over the past few weeks but drop him for a 37 year old who looked past it at this level 3 years ago? Really?

3-1-4-2, especially with Fornah as the 1, needs to go. We need to play 2 DM's. Teams are forcing us to go long by not pressing our back 3 and just cutting off the supply to our midfield - to solve this, our right and left centre backs need to overlap more. When they do, one of the DM's can drop in and cover.

We could argue about which of the 5 centre backs to pick until we're blue in the face, but to some extent they were all crap last night. So I'd play the trio that have only conceded once in their 180 minutes together on Saturday.

Cooper

Aimson
Canavan
Watts

Fornah
Reeves

Edwards
Mayor
G Cooper

Jephcott
Hardie

Subs: McCormick, Opoku, Grant, Camara, Moore, Telford, Nouble.

I agree that Lowe 's positive outlook has been a welcome change but now he needs to prove his managerial credentials.
For the first time since his appointment he has three defeats in three league games and a team which looks bereft of ideas. Our team is crying out for a leader to motivate the team when the going gets tough. We have a number of young technically gifted players but they are too lightweight and naive for this league.
Some attribute our poor away form to travelling but Rochdale certainly didn't seem to be affected by their long trip.

McCormick (Cooper needs to come out of the firing line. If we get another tonking it'll affect McCormick less)

LWB Grant. Steady enough and can occasionally send a good cross over. Just please not at CM

CB Aimson / Opoku / Watts.

RWB Moore

DCM Fornah
CM Edwards plus Mayor / Camara or Cooper whoever is fit, in that order of preference

ST: Jephcott / Hardie

I agree, Metal_Green_Mickey. Seeing how easily a couple of goals were conceded last night when players were out of position, 4 at the back would definitely be a wise idea. Either 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 but we need a greater presence in defence than just 3 players.

Time to change the system and give Cooper a rest to see whether having McCormick barking orders helps the defence.
