“Plymouth are a good side. They had a good start to the season because they’ve got players up top that can hurt you. But they’re leaking goals at the moment, so we have to exploit that.”

On Boxing Day 1960 we played away to Charlton and lost 6-4. The following day we played them in the return match at Home Park and beat them 6-4. I was there and you could not look away for a minute, it was raining goals. What a match !!

For some reason in those days the Christmas matches invariably produced plenty of goals. I think it was defenders getting into the Christmas spirit. :scarf:

Did we also lose 6-4 the following year away and then won 1-0 at home or am I dreaming.

I was also there in 1960. What a match.

Wilf Carter scored 5 goals for us that day. Wish we had someone who could score like that.

However, the game was different in those days and high scores in matches were not that unusual.
The game now is more like a game of chess. Not saying one is better than the other only different.
