Get rid of Wootton and even if we don’t sign replacements I’d say this has been a good transfer window.

Let’s get some good centre backs, build from the back and push on from now.

Yeah let’s just go to the ‘good defender’ shop and buy some decent CB’s with all our free money we have.

Canavan was absolutely turd. We’re much better off without him as things stand, one less poor defender to play

There is absolutely no need for that kind of garbage talk. That is a human being you are talking about. Please desist or find another site packed with fellow misanthropes.

Well quite, but this thread was discussing the defensive issues. Those of us who questioned whether the defence had the qualities required for L1 back in the summer were criticised and have been proved to be right. I only wish Lowe had been a bit more astute in putting his defence together for this season. The goals against column tells its own tale.

I think you will find that the same supporters who said that, and I was probably one, also said, at the start of last season, that we would not get back into League 1 if we kept the same centre backs as we had in the relegation season.
I have also said, this season, that we need an experienced centre back NOW, even before Canavan’s departure.
At the end of the day, we both agree; it was just the word ASTUTE that I thought was rather pompous.

I suppose it was a bit tongue in cheek because some of the more ‘astute’ supporters firmly pointed out the low ish goals against column last season as proof that there wasn’t much wrong with the defence. To anybody who was a regular, that was proof that stats can lie. Time and time we had heart in mouth moments with defensive mayhem, which was often rescued by Palmer, who of course isn’t there now! Clearly, you were one of the doubters Davie, so we are on the same page, so to speak. :scarf:

Nail on head nothing wrong with Cooper behind a decent defence while he learns but Palmer turned average defenders into a decent defence
No coincidence his Lincoln side are challenging
Cannot understand why he wasn't kept as back up at West Brom can see him as there no 1 in the championship next season as Johnstone is sold
Argyle should have taken notice of the palmer development plan with Cooper and got him out on loan in the conference last year and then league 2 this year

I agree. Totally disrespectful to a player who had health issues and gave his best to the club. I wish him well at Bradford.

To be blunt, that sort of disgusting comment about a player who has given good service to the club, even if some of us feel not good enough for this level, is the sort of comment that the moderators should be dealing with. As has been said, totally unacceptable and just uncalled for. Don’t think anybody has called into question Canavan's commitment. If any of us had called Carlo the same derogatory term, or even idiot, we would have been openly censured

Quite a few folk are saying there are better out there without suggestion names. I can’t see anyone in our division selling their in form CB’s and so we are probably looking at a young loan player from the top two divisions. He is likely to be raw and untested outside of youth games. Other than that a player from Div 1 who is out of favour but won’t be match fit.

The problem is we're now maxed out on loans so whoever we bring in will have to be a free agent, released or sold to us for a pittance.

Not quite. We can have as many loans as we like but we can only have 5 at a time in a team.

Final warning now!

Don’t push buttons as you won’t like the inevitable outcome.

The comment from Carlos is beneath contempt in my opinion but that’s all it is. Not one Mod has thought for to remove it, and I applaud that decision.

So, you have now had your FINAL warning, carry on with your ‘game’ and I’ll personally hit the ban button.

Choice is yours.

Thing is Ian if one of us was to remove the post we'd be called over for stifling debate or called green tints.
We really can't win.

And that’s where a leadership decision had to be made which I believe ian has just made.

Hmmmmm.

I don't agree with Carlo whatsoever. However, this is a forum for football opinions. If you choose to ban people because you don't agree with their opinions then it undermines the openness of PASOTI. Almost as if you can't post here unless you hold a certain viewpoint.

Are you referring to the original post or Ian’s response?

Just for clarity - Carlo is perfectly entitled to his opinion on any player. I have been fairly critical of Wootton and the two Coopers for instance. It was the terminology he used which I thought was offensive, towards a player who has done his bit for Argyle.

I feel it’s regrettable too that one can’t question moderators in normal language without the threat of a ban, but I accept that is the way it has to be on this site. I won’t do it again. :scarf:
