1) Watts fit enough to take a place among the subs with MacLeod making way, but Watts either not fit enough to start or Lowe again opted to go with a flat 4. Lewis, despite less than rave reviews among some Pasoti users, retained his place in an unchanged starting line up.

2) Reasonably slow start for Argyle until a corner was worked across the Wimbledon box and Woods with a lovely flicked finish set Argyle in the lead. Minutes later and a fierce Mayor drive hit the goalie who knew little about it. Couple of chances for Hardie (who perhaps could have done better with the first) in quick succession, as Argyle dominated.

3) Argyle confident to pass it around in their own third of the pitch, sometimes a loose pass gave Wimbledon an opportunity. Lewis and Grant notably culpable. Good work from Hardie in hassling defenders set up Ennis for a shot that was blocked by a defender with the keeper beaten. Defence at 6s and 7s at a corner was just about scrambled away.

4) Wimbledon had some good patches as did Argyle, and the halftime scoreline reflected Argyle's more clinical finishing. Lewis in attack had a good half, Mayor and Camara more involved than last game. Aimson and Woods had good halves as did Hardie. Cooper did what he had to when called on.

5) No changes at half-time for Argyle. The big question was whether we would manage to keep concentration levels up for once at the start of the second - we gave them an early chance but Wimbledon failed to take it.

6) As the half wore on it felt increasingly like Wimbledon would create a convertible chance at some point. I was expecting Lowe to revert to a 3 as we struggled to get into the half. As it was Lowe opted to replace Hardie with Jephcott to little effect to the rhythm of the game. Argyle resorted to hitting it long and a result we had little possession

7) The half was passing Mayor and Camara past again and Fornah and Grant were also quiet. Lewis was replaced by Watts with around 20 to go, Grant moved to LWB. Different system but same issues for Argyle. Woods went down injured. With 10 men we looked all at sea. Reeves and Moore replaced Woods and Ennis. Fornah went into the 3 with Reeves as the screen.

8 ) Grant went down injured as Wimbledon pressed in the last 5 minutes. Cooper was a spectator as a free header flashed wide, Fornah nowhere near the man. Moore had a couple of chances to break away but we didn't put anything coordinated together.

9) Ugly win for Argyle. Cooper had a solid game without doing anything too spectacular. All 4 forwards had little given to them by a midfield which was ineffective in the second half. No-one had a stand out game and no-one had a mare. Woods probably motm, just over Aimson.

Michael Cooper - 7
Joe Edwards - 7
Will Aimson - 8
Sam Woods - 8
Adam Lewis - 7
Tyrese Fornah - 6
Connor Grant - 6
Panutche Camara - 6

Niall Ennis - 6

Luke McCormick - unused

After a lovely goal and some nice play in the first half, Argyle emerged for their trademark disjointed, tepid second half. The ball just wouldn't run for us. Camara and Ennis, in particular, both often so effective, seemed to be deceived by every bounce. A better side than Wimbledon would've punished us.
BUT - an ugly win is still a win. Cooper was solid and Woods is now showing what he can do after a nervy first few appearances.
We're looking safe but this second half torpor needs to be addressed next season.

So the same team, would it be the same formation of 4 -2 -2 - 2 ? Watts makes it on the bench.

Not as convincing a first half as we might have liked on a bright and sunny afternoon at Home Park.

The deadlock was broken on 11 minutes when, following a Lewis and Mayor interplay on the left, the ball broke on the right to Fornah, who drove past his man and his cross was back heeled in by Sam Woods, Brazilian style !

On 14 minutes Hardie then had two chances in 60 seconds. Firstly, he was through one on one with the goalkeeper, but shot straight at him, and then from a Lewis cross he was a studs length away from knocking it past the keeper.

At the other end Aimson saved Argyle when a dangerous cross came in, by heading away from Pigott. From the resulting corner, a free header went straight at Cooper.

Fornah was then booked on 29 minutes.

Ennis could have put us 2 up on 30 minutes but his shot was cleared off the line.

Cooper was then called into action twice in a matter of seconds on 36 minutes. A long range shot brought a sort of routine save, but Cooper pushed it over the bar. From the corner Argyle were lucky not to concede and only brave keeping by Cooper kept us in it with a save that sent the ball spinning against the outside of the post.

As the half drew to a close, Aimson had a good header cleared from another Lewis corner.

A feature of the first half was the Lewis and Mayor combination which created a lot but lacked the final ball. Wimbledon look to their physical forward line for their best hopes it would seem.

The second half Wimbledon had a number of chances and Argyle were hanging on, barely stringing two passes together.

Chislett missed a good chance on 46 minutes (yes 46 again !). A number of scares and scrapes later when Wimbledon could have equalised, the final chance fell to Haneghan on 88 minutes when a free header from 7 yards went a yard wide.

We made a number of substitutions, Reeves on for the injured Woods, Moore on for Ennis, Jephcott for Hardie, Watts on for Lewis, but nothing made a difference. We were second to everything in this half. A lucky win !

Only two players overperformed, Cooper and Aimson.

A typical game where 2 3rds of the team know they aren’t here nest season and couldn’t be arsed.

Woods was our standout player, prevented 2 certain goals and scored the winner, never gave the ball away and won nearly every ball in the air.

A good result but a very average performance, although it's a good trait to win when playing not so well.
Woods and Aimson were easily our best players followed by Cooper. Jephcott struggled when he came on in the second half.

We played really well in some periods of the first half, Mayor and Lewis were our main attacking threat on the left, the crosses came in from this side and just evaded Ennis or Hardie although Hardie in particular could have been more determined to reach some of the crosses.
It looked like we were in the mood to score 3 or 4.

Wimbledon had chances and Cooper did well to smother one effort around the post.

The goal was a cheeky flick by Woods from a Fornah cross, I'm not sure if the group of fans stood above the dressing room behind the railings would have seen it. :)

We were lethargic for the second half however unlike other second halves we didn't concede.

Lowe did revert to 3-5-2 to try to get a grip on Wimbledon, soon after Woods picked up an injury and it was disappointing to see Fornah moved into defence rather than giving a chance to young defender Tomlinson.

Lolos should have also be given an opportunity instead of Moore, especially at this stage of the season.

Jephcott came in the 60th minute and really looked out of sorts.
Wimbledon once again had chances but couldn't finish.
The clean sheet was largely due to Aimson and Woods who were immense. Aimson played as a left sided centre-back in a flat back four and then switched to the right in a back three.
Woods looks to have a hamstring injury which may see him out for a few weeks.

The left side disappeared as an attacking force in the second half with Mayor anonymous.
Camara had a quiet game, in fact most of the team strolled through the game but it was still enough to win the three points and confirm a place in League One for next season.

The 4 minutes of injury was a bit of a mess from us, we kept giving the ball away. Poor game management.

Ifollow is still a soulless experience.

Man of the Match - Aimson.

Cooper 7, Edwards 6, Woods 8, Aimson 9, Lewis 6, Grant 6, Fornah 6, Mayor 6, Camara 5, Ennis 5, Hardie 6. Subs - Jephcott 4, Watts 6, Reeves 6, Moore 5.

Jephcott is looking like a very very average player now.

Is that his true colours after an extraordinary purple patch or a player that’s just completely lost confidence.

He's a finisher first and foremost and he never received the ball any where near the box. He worked hard after he came on, but the entire team were guilty of giving the ball away too easily in that dire second half.

Agreed.
What on god's earth was that pass forward in injury time to absolutely nobody?!

How a team can go from having so much control in the first half and the be so poor is beyond me, it's like as if they have no pride. Jephcott is going from bad to worse, Lewis is fine going forward but defending he is a nightmare. Woods is probably the best defender at the club, such a shame he was injured. The nucleus of the team on show today will probably be with us next season, on that display either Lowe and his staff have a problem motivating his players or the players have a problem with him, either way there are serious issues if we are going to progress. A very hard match to watch, I am sure Lowe will come out and say how well we played in parts but sadly football is not about parts but about the overall performance and that was rubbish..

A tale of two halves. Was so impressed with the first half and we were comfortably the better team. It is a consistent feature however that we are second best second half. Need to get to the bottom of it

Jephcott now bang average & thats being generous the "purple" patch he had is now a distant memory he looks lack lustre low on energy something not right with the lad. We really will have to address this second half syndrome next season if we are to make progress. We were second best all over the pitch second half

Another game that showed we are just about better than the bottom third of clubs in this league. That’s no bad thing, it’s what I expected back in September. On another day Wimbledon might have scored, but this wasn’t another day. We confirmed we can scrape three points from a club near the bottom, they confirmed why they are there.

Yes, but we've been saying this all season and had earlier threads dedicated to it.
