Just been listening to a podcast where the hosts were tasked with picking an England side containing one player from each of the last 11 tournaments. Thought I’d put an Argyle twist on it!

(4-2-3-1)

Alex Palmer (2019-20)

Joe Edwards (2020-21)
Curtis Nelson (2014-15)
Sonny Bradley (2016-17)
Onismor Bhasera (2011-12)

Carl McHugh (2015-16)
Conor Hourihane (2013-14)

Ruben Lameiras (2018-19)
Graham Carey (2017-18)
Jason Banton (2012-13)

Bradley Wright-Phillips (2010-11)

Impressive bit of thinking. Deserves to be a popular post.

I’ve cheated here because the last 11 players of the year played in 10 different positions, the other being Carey winning it for a second time.

I’ve added in David Fox and it makes this team:

Luke McCormick

Joe Edwards
Maxime Blanchard
Sonny Bradley
Onismor Bhasera

Antoni Sarcevic
Carl Fletcher
David Fox

Ruben Lameiras
Reuben Reid
Graham Carey

That in itself is a pretty good stat.

When you think that the period 2010-21 is arguably the worst in the history of the club with 7 seasons in Tier 4 and 4 in Tier 3 then it is ironic to find so many pretty decent players figuring in these composite teams.

I thought I would try to do something along these lines for the 1960s - from 1960-61 to 1970-71 Argyle spent 8 seasons in Tier 2 and 3 in Tier 3 - the 'good old days' perhaps so in theory this 'team' should be in a different league from their moderrn counterparts!

How about....

Dave Maclaren 1960-61

Tony Book 1965-66
Bryce Fulton 1961-62

Johnny Williams 1964-65
Andy Nelson 1966-67
John Newman 1962-63

Steven Davey 1968-69
Wilf Carter 1963-64
Mike Bickle 1967-68
David Burnside 1969-70
Don Hutchins 1970-71

And a very good team. We still need a Bhasera, a Fox, a Sarcevic and a Reid to come in this summer. Hopefully we already have our new Bradley.
