Don’t know what most of PASOTI have been doing during lockdown, but right at the beginning I decided I was going to spend some time properly listening to some classic albums.

I am a bit of a vinyl nerd and am fortunate enough to have an extensive collection from the 60's to the present day. I decided to start listening to stuff from the 60's/70's first and several weeks in I have only just started on the 80's. My only rule has been that the album must feature in the 1001 albums you must hear before you die book.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit I’ve listened to about 60 albums and done very little DIY!
Albums range from Beatles Abbey Road, Lou Reed Transformer, Dylan Blood on the Tracks, Springsteen Born to Run. As I type this, I’m listening to The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead.

So my question is if you had to choose one classic Album to listen to for the last time, what would it be?

Miles Davis, Kind of blue

I’m sad to say I’ve never heard this album, not being a jazz fan. I will check it out though. It’s right there as part of the 1001, so I guess I must listen to it before I die!

That’s interesting. You obviously prefer it to the 'Live' album, which is awesome.

For me it would probably be 'The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage' by Peter Hammill.

No idea if it is in your book Owly, not the sort of thing I would ever look at to be honest.

Also, the trouble with music (or, perhaps, the great thing about it) is that I could choose a different album tomorrow, the day after, next week, etc. It really is a mood thing.

Good thread though!

I have no idea why I’ve never listened to VDGG. I am a massive fan of early era Genesis and the two bands certainly toured together in the early days. Also King Crimson who were amazing too. You’re right though, I could choose one album today and then change my mind next week. That is the GREAT thing about music!

Give 'em a listen. 'Pawn Hearts' especially. Not everyone's cup of tea I would think. But I loved the prog era and VDGG were, for me, right up there. I saw the Crims last year at the Arena in Verona. Superb!!

I will. It’s never too late to discover a great band! BTW have just bought the 50th Anniversary remasters of 3 Crimson albums. Stunning! Got to spend your dosh somehow during lockdown!

Tough choice, to choose a classic album to listen for the last time but after careful thought for me it would have to be Stone Roses debut album

Just checked out Pawn Hearts on eBay. Original pressings go for about £100. I see Fripp played on that album. Never saw KC, but met Fripp's missus once backstage at one of her own gigs! Slightly different music!
