But for me On The Border is up there but probably not on there. Got to say I now have every album on vinyl and cd. Sad but hey ho. And seen them quite a few times over the years

Brilliant to have seen them whilst on a run ashore in Jacksonville! Fantastic musicians and singers. Completely different music but similar band to 10cc. Every member had a great voice and wrote brilliant songs. The Eagles lasted a bit longer though!

Stone Roses is playing right now. She’s a Waterfall. They were well after my student years(not that I had any - in the Navy at 16). I’m glad to say I’ve never let my age put me off listening to any band if I like em. If it was ok for John Peel, it’s ok for me!

That’s really weird. I had three albums vying for top spot, and went for kind of blue, as you saw. My other two were Aja and pretzel logic.

I'm guessing that you also like The Koln concert by Keith Jarrett?

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd.
I still have the original vinyl album that my first serious girlfriend bought me in 1973. Nice memories.

1st presses of this great album and many others are worth quite a bit now, not that you’d want to sell it! I do wish I hadn’t got rid of so many early vinyl pressings of albums like Led Zeppelin 1-4 which are all worth good money now. Then again, I also wish I’d never sold my RS Cosworth Sierra thirty years ago. Live and learn!

Put on some decent headphones and listen to end to end:

The Receiving End of Sirens - The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi

(Very apt title and concept in current global conditions!)

Glorious album that you’ll pickup new nuances on every time you listen.
Whether you believe that God created you for a purpose, or that the world is governed by blind chance, everything in life is a gift at its core; we are beggars all.

Thanks for that Dave. Have just had a quick sample listen on ITunes. Will download it. It reminds me of Doves. Would that be fair?

Have you heard the Bernie Grundman remasters ?. Well worth sourcing if you don't have them already.

Rather poignantly given the sad passing of the genius Dave Greenfield on Sunday, might I suggest:

Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers (1977).

If you do just one thing, take in the crescendo of the encore 'Down in the Sewer' on a decent set of headphones as it switches from lead guitar, keyboard, drum and bass leads. It really is a classic of its time.

IMHO, look no further.

Greenfield's keyboards differentiated The Stranglers from everything else around them. Some may never had heard of him because keyboards didn't really fit the genre, but he was outstanding and another very sad loss to Covid.

I read that in the Times this morning. Never saw them live but loved their early stuff, Peaches etc. Only have the Rattus album, but it’s a bit worn out so I’m thinking either a new remaster or a mint copy from ebay might be in the offing. I didn’t look after my vinyl as well back then as I do now!!

Trouble is, they’ve done that many remasters I’ve no idea which one I’ve got now. I think mine is the 2018 version (my original vanished donkeys years ago). Looking at the sleeve and the disc itself, I can’t see any reference as to who remastered it. Is there a particular catalogue number for the Grundman remaster?
