So hopefully this can bring in as many interesting posts as the Albums thread.
What were Pasoti's most UNEXPECTEDLY disappointing live gigs. If we could make it fairly major bands so that readers can get some idea of how disappointing it actually was!
To kick it off I was thinking Robert Plant at Plymouth Pavilions a couple of years ago. I hadn’t seen the great man since I saw Led Zeppelin the one and only time back in 1973. Then I thought it was a bit unfair because the disappointment was in the sludgy sound which to be fair, the Pavilions has got a bit of previous with.
So my choice is the Human League at Portsmouth Guildhall in 94. I had seen them a few years before and they were great. They are after all, a Sheffield band (sorry). Anyway my now-ex had got tickets to see Oasis at Earls Court on the same night. I know, you’re already thinking WTF!
Whilst I loved Oasis first two albums , I wasn’t a massive fan of Liam myself and I convinced my ex that Human League would be a better gig. I know I know! So she sold the tickets on Loot and we drove down to Pompey, took up our position fairly close to the front and the gig commences with Being Boiled. Honestly, they were absolutely cr4p from start to finish. The girls were off-key (nothing new there) and Phil Oakey looked and sounded like he couldn’t be arsed. Half the crowd, including me and my ex couldn’t be bothered to ask let alone wait around for, an encore.
My ex was a bit of a fiery one and I can tell you the journey back to London was somewhat hostile. 'I could have seen Oasis instead of that f-ing sh*t' etc etc. Shall we say there was a bit of an atmosphere in the bedroom for a day or three afterwards!
Happy days
