So hopefully this can bring in as many interesting posts as the Albums thread.

What were Pasoti's most UNEXPECTEDLY disappointing live gigs. If we could make it fairly major bands so that readers can get some idea of how disappointing it actually was!

To kick it off I was thinking Robert Plant at Plymouth Pavilions a couple of years ago. I hadn’t seen the great man since I saw Led Zeppelin the one and only time back in 1973. Then I thought it was a bit unfair because the disappointment was in the sludgy sound which to be fair, the Pavilions has got a bit of previous with.

So my choice is the Human League at Portsmouth Guildhall in 94. I had seen them a few years before and they were great. They are after all, a Sheffield band (sorry). Anyway my now-ex had got tickets to see Oasis at Earls Court on the same night. I know, you’re already thinking WTF!

Whilst I loved Oasis first two albums , I wasn’t a massive fan of Liam myself and I convinced my ex that Human League would be a better gig. I know I know! So she sold the tickets on Loot and we drove down to Pompey, took up our position fairly close to the front and the gig commences with Being Boiled. Honestly, they were absolutely cr4p from start to finish. The girls were off-key (nothing new there) and Phil Oakey looked and sounded like he couldn’t be arsed. Half the crowd, including me and my ex couldn’t be bothered to ask let alone wait around for, an encore.

My ex was a bit of a fiery one and I can tell you the journey back to London was somewhat hostile. 'I could have seen Oasis instead of that f-ing sh*t' etc etc. Shall we say there was a bit of an atmosphere in the bedroom for a day or three afterwards!

Happy days

Meatloaf at Home Park to be honest.

It was a pretty low turnout to begin with but the stadium was close to empty by the time the show finished - we had nobody sitting anywhere near us by the time he eventually did Bat Outta Hell, think it was partly because of the rain, but mostly because of just how poor & low quality the show was, other ones I've been to at Home Park and at various other football grounds have been very good, but that one was just a real let down.

Megadeth at the Pavillions. Crap sound and Dave Mustaine couldn’t be arsed.

To make it a bit more interesting, can we perhaps elaborate on why gigs disappointed, especially as it was unexpected.

I went to see Grace Jones in Bournemouth many years ago. At the time she had a great band, full of great individual musicians,

She came on stage - no band and she mimed the songs. I walked out after 30 minutes. The only gig I've ever walked out of.

Worst would be between the cancelled Download festival this year and the cancelled Boardmasters festival last year when it got called off on the first night on the campsite due to high winds

Things have to be seriously bad to walk out that early. Terrible that she was miming as well. Mind you, I think there’s a lot of that these days. Hopefully the crowd let her know what they thought!

I think the worst band I have seen live was a Sisters of Mercy tribute band in the beer garden of a pub in Huddersfield. They were so bad everyone in the toilet was p***ing on their shoes instead of in the urinal because we were all too busy laughing!

The novelty wore off after a couple of songs but it was cringingly awful and they had the gig cut off early by the clearly furious pub landlord.

The Sisters is one of my favourite bands, or 4 of my favourite bands but let’s not go into that. I would never go to see a tribute band as I can’t see anyone being able to pull it off.

In general, I know what you mean GT. However, there are two tribute bands I have seen who are both stunningly brilliant. The Musical Box (Canadian Genesis tribute band) and of course Australian Pink Floyd. Both bands are closely linked to the real band and certainly The Musical Box have all Genesis early era stage sets, costumes, lights etc. I think Aussie PF have similar access to stage gear too.
These bands are not the pub type tribute band - they play major venues all over the world. Both are due to play Plymouth Pavilions next year if Covid allows
