The Sisters is one of my favourite bands, or 4 of my favourite bands but let’s not go into that. I would never go to see a tribute band as I can’t see anyone being able to pull it off.

In general, I know what you mean GT. However, there are two tribute bands I have seen who are both stunningly brilliant. The Musical Box (Canadian Genesis tribute band) and of course Australian Pink Floyd. Both bands are closely linked to the real band and certainly The Musical Box have all Genesis early era stage sets, costumes, lights etc. I think Aussie PF have similar access to stage gear too.
These bands are not the pub type tribute band - they play major venues all over the world. Both are due to play Plymouth Pavilions next year if Covid allows

Sorry, my post was badly worded. I meant the I wouldn’t go to see a Sisters tribute band. I’d quite happily go to see APF.

the best I ever heard live was simply red weekend at the old Wembley stood next to the stage (working) it was like listening to a cd, the worst was lisa Stansfield at roundhay park leeds again (working) she was warm up act for phil Collins.

I’m very sad to say this because the man is an absolute hero of mine, but Bowie on the Glass Spider Tour at Cardiff Arms Park in the early 80s. Never have I been so expectant and yet so underwhelmed. It is well known as his nadir and I never got to see him again. Sigh.

I sometimes wonder about sound systems for support bands. I remember PAUL Young supporting Genesis at Wembley stadium. He was absolutely terrible, awful sound. Genesis come on and it’s like a HIFI system :funny:

Yeah, that is very sad. Going to see an iconic figure like Bowie and coming away disappointed. I remember making a deliberate decision not to see him on that tour due to reports I had heard. He was on at Westpoint of all places from memory. I wanted to remember him from better days in the 70's when he was absolutely astounding.

The 1987 Plymouth Rock Festival at Home Park, depending on you choice of music a great line up

Black Sabbath
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Public Image Ltd
The Damed
New Order
Steel Pulse
Flesh for Lulu

A complete farce no more than 500 people attended it poured down till late afternoon. If I remember rightly Black Sabbath refused to play due to the rain and left, none of the other artists other than Captain Sensible solo act showed up with just a few other artists.
I think it finished about 6pm when the sun came out and there was nobody left

The Black Keys only went because I wanted to see the Maccabees who were supporting.

I was there, and I agree, totally underwhelming.
I’d rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.

Baxter Dury 3 years ago Victoria Park. Three numbers, brilliant, then suddenly finished. He said that was their only allotted time. Grrrrr.

Elton John at the Cornwall Coliseum in the early 80s. He was in his drug using years and he really didn't want to be there. He must have been as glad when it was over as the audience was.

Pearl Jam and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club a few years ago at Milton Keynes Bowl is the most disappointing gig I've been to, but not because it was a bad gig - it was a gloriously sunny afternoon / evening, there was a big crowd with a great atmosphere, they're two of my favourite bands, and I went with one of my best friends.

However, we missed BRMC due to traffic on the way there. We heard the last song of their encore as we approached the entrance.

My friend then overindulged (playing 'catch-up' at the bar because we arrived late) and proceeded to collapse / pass out about 3 songs into PJ's set. As it was just the two of us, the stewards insisted I also went along to the medical tent, from where I heard an extremely muffled / distant PJ play what sounded like an absolutely storming set.

My friend recovered sufficiently for us to get back to the main arena in time for their last song (Yellow Leadbetter), which just compounded the fact I'd almost entirely missed a great gig.

Coming in a close second is Soundgarden at Brixton Academy in the early 2010s, but for completely different reasons. Terrible sound quality. - it was really just noise. It is the only time I ever saw Soundgarden play live with Kim Thayil on lead guitar, and you couldn't really hear him at all.

The La’s, Bangor Uni, 1989-ish. There She Goes had just hit the charts and they had to go record TOTP instead, apparently. They never turned up, no one told the SU, we stood around expectantly for a hour then went to the pub.
