Pubs!

Anyone ventured out today?

I looked at my most local pub's website this morning and they're booked solid, which is a pretty weird situation in itself - you have to use a booking website to get a table, and I don't know if you're allowed to stay indefinitely. I'm guessing not - I suppose there must be time slots, as in busy restaurants (which my old grandpappy tells me were once a thing in the Before Times).

Then, once on the premises, along with all the social distancing and so on, you have to download a drink-ordering app to get table service (which I actually think is pretty cool) but you also have to provide personal information in case you need to be contact-traced later. That's pretty much inevitable under the current circumstances - what else could we expect? - but as always I wonder where the data will end up and what it will be used for, and how much of your privacy, other than bare contact details, you have to sign away in the terms and conditions before you can even sup your first pint.

Any stories of fun or trying experiences? Much as I miss pubs, I'm not sure I'm so desperate as to be willing to go through all the rigmarole.

What's a pub?

Today, pubs have no strict definition, but CAMRA states a pub has four characteristics:

Open to the public without membership / residency
Serve draught beer or cider without requiring food be consumed
Have at least one indoor area not laid out for meals
Allow drinks to be bought at a bar (i.e. not only table service)

If you count giving personal details as a form of membership, I suppose that two of those still hold true...

I'm a reformed character now.
Must be over a year since I last went into a pub here. yeah, last summer i'd say.
Three of the pubs in town have been doing takeaway hot meals during lockdown. I will try and support them once things get a little bit quieter (after the summer season perhaps). that will also depend on when my operation takes place.

Could Pepys not go into a pub for a drink without having sex with a doxy then??

... and, if he did, was she necessarily a poxy doxy?

Sounds like a man blaming women for his own weakness of character again! Plus ca change ....!
