In my opinion the best midfielder that ever donned the green shirt.
For somebody that was here for such a short time he created a lasting impression with a lot of supporters me included.
I had heard that he hadn't been well for some time but nevertheless a real shock.
A true Argyle great.

Never felt anything but confident in the result when Ernie ran out of the tunnel, commanded the middle of the park and had a wicked free kick, a great loss and sadly missed, commiserations to his family.

My second greatest ever Argyle legend (only to Mariner). A genuine sadness at this news. His family have every right to be proud of him on his passing.

Ernie Machin controlled football games like no other. His skills were much needed in the early 70's and I feared the team would fall apart when he left the club. It is a tribute to him that Argyle didn't collapse and the players seemed to grow in their roles having learnt from Ernie. The team went on to secure promotion leaving special memories of a tough tackling, skill-full passer of the ball and tactician. Worthy of 'man of the match' whenever he played. May he long be remembered.
