I've fallen foul of this multiple times. Personally I prefer to use the phrase prima-doner, ie an excellent kebab.Do you mean primadonnas? Or pre-Maradona (who would be Johan Cruyff). Or pre-Madonna (popular music before Like a Virgin?)
As long as we know what it means, language and poster has done their jobs. In fact didn't Shakespeare re-invent the language by creating his own words? Perhaps we'll all be calling them pre-madonna's in 100 years time. It probably makes more sense to the average early 21st century englishman to describe entitled footballers using pop-star references!
