I periodically get emails saying I've subscribed to threads when I haven't been signed in to pasoti.

Besides you get a notification to say you've subscribed/unsubscribed after you've hit the button, I've never seen those until I've signed in to try it out today.

In the last two days I've received a dozen or so notifications about postings in a thread that I'm not too interested in....settings checked but cannot find a problem.

Looking back through my emails it's been happening on and off since at least Jan last year.

I think that the 'subscribe' hasn't been working properly until now. Those of you who have started getting notifications probably clicked on the subscribe button a while ago by accident, but hasn't noticed it until it started working a few days ago.
