We struggled yesterday as some players looked very un-fit.
Maybe employment at Home Park these days is too comfortable?

But I've heard it said by a former manager of Argyle, and by Neil Lennon on yesterday's Five Live coverage of opening day, that players need at least four or five actual matches to reach optimum levels of fitness.
Pre-season training - not even the matches - can't get players to that level. Only actual matches does the trick.
It seems to be understood that August is the same for everyone - the first lap on a very long run.
We're all just getting up to speed.

WHY?
Why should the players look unfit, most have had a full pre-season, most have had games pre-season, yes you need game time in real meaningful games, BUT that is the same has any other team, yet we looked unfit, did Cambridge look unfit?

Since you posted this the team have come back from 2-0 down against a team from a higher league, took them to extra time, playing another 30 minutes and only lost by the odd penalty.
We then ran rings around Exeter, thumping them 3-0 and then faced Stevenage - a robust and physical team - and we came back from 1-0 down to battle and fight until the last kick and were rewarded with a 97th minute penalty.
I really don't think the team is unfit.
