Fingers crossed that TUFC can find a Simon Hallett type character to sort things out.

I have been there for Argyle pre-season games for thle last 2 seasons and been impressed with facilties. They should never be in National League South.

Apparently there is a 'sporting covenant' on Plainmoor, but he has been sidling up to the council for a number of years.

Perhaps someone's given him the nod.

Those not going to Boro should try to get down there on Sat.

There are plenty of people I know he in SE Devon (I live part way between Exeter and Torquay, near Dawlish) who claim to be Gulls fans, yet hardly ever go to Plainmoor. There's enough "fans" to pack out their 6,000-odd capacity stadium if they really wanted to: the combined population of the Torbay conurbation is bigger than the city of Exeter.

Hopefully this news can spur those in the bay to rally then. I know the writing has been on the wall for a while but this news may get some into action.

I really don't want Torquay United to go under: I like them, and I quite like Plainmoor. But their average attendance is roughly 2,500. I've been scrolling back over the last 10-15 years and their average attendance hasn't really fluctuated much, even when they finished above us in the league. (shudder)

Thing is, football is getting more expensive. Running a club is getting expensive. Things are only going to get harder, unfortunately. Yes, we can "send out" supporters to swell their numbers, but that'll only act like putting a plaster over a severed artery: It wouldn't be long before numbers would return to their normal levels of around 2,500.

You're right: the writing has been on the wall for a while, but the writing is whether Torquay can survive much longer as a professional club. I doubt they can.

Plus, which pocket would our money fall in to?

It's their fight.

Perhaps we should wait and see what the fans (not the TUST) do or want to do.

My first ever game, even before Argyle, was a testimonial at Plainmoor against Man Utd in 1968. Charlton, Best, Law all played.

Hope things work out for TUFC.

There are plenty of clubs that survive with that level of crowd at that level and even higher, so there are clearly other issues. It's been suggested the owner wants the land for other purposes. If that ever happens the elected members who are tasked with representing their communities will have utterly and totally failed in that task. I was in Brighton when the Goldstone Ground was destroyed in favour of a shitty DIY store. Nothing like that should happen to a community football club. Brighton bounced back after their assets were stolen, eventually, but no community should ever have to go through that again.

It should be EVERY football fans fight Ian. Greed should not trump community. Paying to line the pocket of asset strippers is wrong, joining the fight for a community football club is totally right.

You're not wrong. But there's been a distinct lack of fight from TUFC fans thus far to be fair. When Argyle were going under it was all hands to the pump (well not quite, some carped from the sidelines, but you know what I mean). This has been in the post for some time, and as the Torquay fan in this thread says, apathy has ruled the day so far.
