Wasn't there an article claiming Ennis left us because they paid him four times his Argyle salary.

Now he is at Stoke l think. What a shocking waste of money for a club losing it like they are. I fear they are in massive trouble. Unfortunately, its not going to be before the end of this season.
We offered 7.5 and Blackburn offered 15 according to a little birdy that told me last year

I do wonder if Simon now regrets the decision to pump so much money into Brickfields at the expense of establishing ourselves in the championship (and losing key investors).
I don't think he does. You don't put the roof on a house without solid foundations. Granted, we may need to drop off a tad to move forward, but ultimately the club IS moving forward, relegation or not (it's called the bigger picture.....!)

Just going off an article l remember reading. Even at 15k that's more than we can afford.

Loved Ennis to bits. Had he remained, l feel he would help us get over the line to safety.

Attracting investors will depend on what the investors want.
Simon Hallett is very keen to future proof the club by investing in long term projects like Brickfields whereas the original Argyle Green consortium, by all accounts, wanted to invest in the team.

Investors will want to see a return on their investment and in football terms that means higher end Championship or getting into the Premier League.
Under our current mode of mainly off pitch investment and some money into the team I think we've hit our ceiling.

Nick Giannotti is what remains of Argyle Green and he's supportive of the off the pitch investment.
So will any new investor invest in the team or off the pitch projects or will it be as it currently is with a bit of both with the emphasis of projects rather than players?
If we are not careful we could have the best facilities in League Two.

It's a difficult balance for Simon Hallett to strike.
Of course the team needs some investment if weā€™re to achieve or even start to move towards our goals as set out in the new five year plan. But suggesting that we will fall to league two without extra funds is ridiculous isnā€™t it? Yes it can happen if we loose our way. But we are well run now and although we arenā€™t rich, surely we are financially sustainable at league one level. With some extra income due to come in from the new far post club and a very healthy match day income coming from the grandstand also. While crowds may well drop if we got relegated. Thereā€™s a good chance of keeping some of our recent green army converts, particularly if we can continue with playing an attractive brand of football. Please tell me your league two comment isnā€™t a serious point.

No, no, no, no... Brickfields is long term thinking not here and now. Brickfield will hopefully help us develop the next generation of talent that may one day be sold on for significant money AKA the southampton model. Given the large catchment area Plymouth has (with no serious competition from Cornwall to Bristol) we have a vast untapped pool of talent. Brickfields is sensible, spending the dosh now is the old fashioned short term approach

Not snide.

Maybe challenging.

Part of his role is to prepare the club to challenge. To seek out investment. To not spend 21 million on Brickfields when 5 million would have secured our status this year.
Not only snide, but stupid imo. You will not find a single CEO of any organisation who has got recruitment 100% right. To then treat each poor recruitment outcome as a ā€˜stainā€™ is ridiculous. If the poster is under fifteen however I withdraw my criticism.

If Whittaker had carried on the rest of the season as he played in his December-January purple patch then we could be looking at Ā£20m. Now I think we will be lucky to get Ā£10m to be honest. He is a very decent championship player but I would be surprised if there will be much premier league interest, which is of course where the big money
Let's be honest if Jamie Mackie can make the premier League with honesty and hard work Morgan Whitaker with his skill certainly can

There's that short term thinking again.

That will never get us anywhere and will only keep us going around in circles.
Agreed for starters tge brickfields snd structural improvements started way before reaching the championship, you cant attract players in todays game with 1970's training facilities, Holloway made that clear more than a decade ago.

Well, here's my twopenneth. I'm 78 years young and had hoped to see Argyle in the top flight for just one season before I disappear to the "great league in the sky". BUT - given where we are, I think investment in the longer term is the right way to go. Brickfields, youth/academy development, stadium expansion (if doable at acceptable cost) are all going to pay off in a decade. Sadly, I probably won't be around to enjoy it but my children and grandchildren (all of whom I've indoctrinated into Argyle fans) maybe will. Keep us on track SH. For myself, I'd love us to stay up, but, if not, please keep the faith and stay on plan.

But it's not 21 million it's 11 or 12 with the rest funded through grants regeneration grants and PCC
Simon re distributed his share issues to find the money and as such decided this is what he wished to spend his money on. I may suggest that brick fields be renamed Hallett Park on completion because without his investment the grants wouldn't be available either

Not Sure on Simon's age but he is getting to the stage whereby back and forth across the Atlantic maybe taking it's toll and also with all the criticism recently he maybe looking for a way out

I havenā€™t said anything about recruitment!

I have said his reign as Argyle chairman will be stained by this relegation. Indeed he will have 2 relegations on his watch.

I donā€™t think it is stupid to say in January or last summer ā€œtake Ā£5 mill of the Brickfields money, get Azaz and 2 more in the transfer window, stay up and use next years tv money to pay the 5 million back to Brickfields projectā€.

This type of attitude may have seen Schumacher remain as our manager.

Sadly, we have a significant possibility of being relegated and getting out of League 1 is very hard.
