Youâre right, thatâs very bizarre. Perhaps the EFL or Press Association is the source they all take it from, and theyâve cocked up.
Itâs 100% definitely 53 points.
It's not bizarre but it's slow of the BBC to correct its moving 'as it stood' table (itself a sloppy use of words). During the games, the table shifts around as goals are scored in each match, and teams accordingly move up, down or stay in the same place. Points tallies etc. are also adjusted. What the BBC consistently fails to do is quickly convert the 'as it stood' table to the actual table when all completed matches are included. It causes confusion, as here, when there are late goals.
But, don't just blame the Beeb and the media companies who replicate its tables. Any fan should know Argyle's points tally before and after the game. You don't need the BBC or anyone else to tell you how many points Argyle and its main competitors have going into a game, or to compute the actual totals.
