First time I've seen a photo of the massed Argyle ranks at Highbury. Taken by a Gooner apparently.

We may have been hammered but by God that WAS a turnout that day.

Great to finally see a picture of the Green Army that day Ian, albeit a very scary experience that could so easily have been another Hillsborough.

Yep, a single copper saved us that day, he bolt cropped that lock at the Clock End, if he hadn't fans would have died without a doubt.

The Met lost it completely, they didn't have a clue. some reckoned 13,000 of us turned up that day.

I remember that game well but donā€™t recall feeling in any danger. We must have been in a different part of the ground.
My main complaint about that game was that Geoff Crudgington, who had been playing well, was dropped and replaced by Steve Cherry.
I wrote to the club and complained but I donā€™t think I got a reply. I just felt disappointed for Crudgie. As it happened, it wouldnā€™t have mattered who was in goal.

The one real time I have been really scared at a football match. I took a friend whoā€™s a Port Vale fan with me that day and he never came with me again.

I was standing right at the back and it looked very full but did not feel dangerous but that may have been the innocence of youth.

The real cram was down at the front and to the right hand side looking at the Clock End from the pitch John.

That was a scary day and yet normal for that era. Wasn't there a late train full of fans which made the already packed crowd worse?

We scored the best goal. :)

Yup. I was on it! We were held up on outskirts of London waiting for a relief driver. When we arrived, Police escorted us at ā€œspeed of slowest personā€. I got in quite quickly, match had already started. Fortunately, Iā€™d decided to sit, so no queue to get in. Queues were huge for clock end.

that's exactly where i was.i,along with many others was starting to get crushed and i could also hear the argyle fans frustration still outside desperate to get in because the turnstiles couldn't cope with the numbers,at that point a decisive policeman hollered"open that gate now",but for him people would have died,a terrifying experience.
