Jack Charlton had the best advice for defenders with comments like " I don't like centre halves who can play football" and to the late, great, Bobby Moore, before his beauty pass to Sir Geoff Hurst, in the final minute of 66, for the fourth goal "I would have kicked it into the stands"

Anybody listening?

John Uzell used this tactic to great effect. If in doubt he hoofed the ball into the stands or ,even better back then ,into the zoo!

The defence is an area of the team that Lowe has badly neglected and it shows a flaw in his approach to management. He seems to take a childish delight in spending his budget on wingers and strikers whilst overlooking the obvious weakness in the squad !

The goalkeeper, together with 3 first team central defenders have virtually no football league experience before the start of this season. These are key positions and Lowe was very naive to think that mistakes wouldn’t be made. I understand that young players need to start somewhere, but when your whole defensive unit comes directly from youth team football it’s downright reckless. The only advantage is that it’s cheap and allows the budget to be spent on other parts of the squad.

Furthermore, and without knowing what goes on behind the scenes, I do wonder whether the club would benefit from a specialist defensive coach as some here have suggested.

I think only Swindon, Rochdale and Wigan have conceded more goals in the league this season than Argyle and only ten clean sheets also tells its own story. If a better defensive leader had been signed last summer, in the mould of a Coughlan etc. then Argyle might well have challenged for the play offs, instead of having the more nervous supporters worrying about a late slump towards relegation. Definitely needs attention this summer if a difficult second season is to be avoided.

McCormick should start the next game.

He has the experience to organise the kids in defence. Cooper does not.

Concentrate whistle to whistle; both halves!
Don't leave what you can do to anyone else.
Learn from your (team and personal) mistakes and work hard on improving.

oh ... and ...
CONCENTRATE!! - whistle to whistle; both halves!
