There is an article on the BBC Football page today about Blackpool reaching the semis of the FA Youth Cup where they are to play Arsenal over two legs. There is a section where the writer indicates how difficult it must be for little clubs like Blackpool to recruit on the Fylde coast, so close to some real giants who have big, top-class academies. I think if I had a son good enough to join a professional football club I would be seriously thinking about the merits of joining the likes of Fleetwood, Blackpool, Morecambe, Bury, Rochdale and Accrington. If the lad is going to be good enough to play in the PL or the Championship he will still get there. It just strikes me that his chances of an initial contract and a decent, grounded football education are higher at the bottom end of the FL.
