I remember us playing Spencer & Goodwillie together on the opening day of DA's second season against Luton. It was soon changed. Although signing a player like Goodwillie must have meant DA had intended to go 2 up top as there's no way Goodwillie fits the lone striker hold up man profile that DA usually likes.
Then when he went to one up top he played Goodwill ie on his own, what was he about 5' 7"? Then played long balls up to him, madness! The one up top argument is flawed and its not a negative formation but a potentially attacking one of played correctly. Most teams play one central striker such as Kane at Spurs, Firmino at Pool and Aguero at City but all three teams then play either two or three players buzzing around them which often means an attacking three or four. Time you have at least one attacking midfielder and the full backs pushed on, its a really attacking line up. Too often with Argyle though we are too passive and sit deep, leaving the lone striker isolated and then end up playing long balls which don't always stick.

The one up top isn't the issue, the issue is our often passive tactics and lack of press.
