I have a particular distaste for company’s that can’t be bothered to maintain equipment.

It shows a complete lack of respect and concern for the employees and customers.

If it’s true then they deserve to go out of business. Hopefully the employees not involved directly with the issues find employment.

Those who are responsible should be hung out to dry.

I heard a rumour this week that Dartline are stepping in. Not from the club obviously, but a very good source who had told me of the impending problem.

To run which service. Home and Away travel?

I've no idea, just that there were talks between to the two companies.

The two companies are linked by a company called Dealtop.
Dartline have made an offer to Target which has been rejected.

Tally Ho have the capital, the staff and space on their operators license to take over the contract for the team bus and the taverners bus too.
Hopefully they can get talking and something can get confirmed.

Is there any possibility of another company taking over the football specials on match days? Or is it back to horrendously long queues on Outland Road after the matches?

That’s my main concern. Don’t really care about what happens about the Team Coach. Want to know how I’m getting home.

Oh no does this mean with no football specials will more people be leaving earlier?

Didn't city bus once provide the team bus?

When the Supporters Club ran the travel, we had used Citybus for several years as they provided the best quote. When Argyle took it on they handed it to Target.

It is a sad day to see Robert Risk Company Secretary, founder and driving force behind Target Travel recently have his license revoked by the Traffic Commissioner. What many of the contributors to your site may not realise is that he has been one of the most valuable Argyle supporters for countless years, supplying executive coach transport to the team, usually at a financial loss to his business and luxury coach transport to the supporters club at a slight profit. Not only were the team dependent upon him persuading his employers at Western National Ltd to regularly replace their luxury team coach and continue with the contract, but when Firstbus bought the company from Western National Ltd he often found himself fighting their shareholders demands for reasonable profit with his own wishes to stand by the needs of the team and supporters club.

When Firstbus decided that coach hire was a dying industry as far as profitability was concerned and made him redundant along with the whole private coach hire division, he bravely relied on experience from his days as the owner of Roberts Mini Coaches and risked every penny of his own money to start a new company with just half a dozen coaches, which he since grew by working 70 hours a week to be the largest coach hire company in the South West of England.

During this time he has continued to support Plymouth Argyle’s Team and supporters and his situation today, with the licensing authority, is caused in part by risking the purchase of a brand new team coach, the deposit for which meant dipping into a £100K pot of ready cash which he was supposed to stump up and keep available to prove financial standing.

Several of your contributors have mentioned alternative suppliers for transport, including sighting Roselyn coaches often parked in Citybus, but this is only because Citybus provide them with essential engineering services which many smaller companies like Roselyn cannot provide themselves in the way Target Travel can.

Citybus owned by Go Ahead is the only local company large enough to provide any alternative, but they will not wish to be involved in providing any single use luxury team coach with half the seating capacity required by the average hirer and their supporters coach hire prices will much better reflect the economic cost of their provision and will come as a huge shock after the generous nature of Robert Risk to our supporters club.

Nobody wants to see a local business go under, especially one that's done so much for the club, but having experience working for a company that relies heavily on its O Licence you can't afford to take risks with it.

From reading the reports that's exactly what's happened unless I'm mistaken? There was so much funding directed to the team bus etc that the rest of the fleet was in a neglected state?

That's not only totally unacceptable for whoever rode on one of their buses but is also a danger to other road users too.

Thanks Saltashbob, do you have any information on who will run the match day specials post Target Travel?

Ironic isn’t it that First Kernow are now really promoting the coaching side of things again under the Truronian brand name!

It is sad to see what’s happened to Robert Risk but at the same time public safety is paramount. I’ve heard a rumour that Dartline is run by his son? Anyone know if there is any truth in this? Win:win for everyone if true?!
