There is no doubt Sheridan is a good firefighter at clubs in trouble. In recent seasons he has gone in at Argyle, Notts Co, Newport and Oldham last season) and rescued each of them from difficult league positions. It just seems that once he settles in he kind of loses momentum.

Yes, there is that. One wonders how many sackings and failures it takes to become unemployable. I heard somewhere that Coyle was almost nailed on for Ross County.

Gets bored, loses interest, then loses the players? That would be my guess.

The fact he couldn't wait to get out of Plymouth seemed to have not gone unnoticed by his team.

If the manager doesn't even want to be there, what does that tell his players? You don't run through brick walls for a manager like that.

Once he comes in straight talking and making sensible decisions, a few wins get the momentum to stay up. But his promotion with Chesterfield seems a long time ago now.

Sheridan has won his unfair dismissal claim against Notts County and has been awarded £125k. Quite an eye opener to read about the foul mouth tirade he gave the officials.

The manner he came in after Fletcher and made instantaneous common sense decisions was impressive.

He barely knew the squad and within a few weeks was picking the strongest team Argyle had (something Fletcher struggled with), had worked out the key areas Argyle were struggling in and had important new players on the way (Reuben, Banton, Cox, Bryan).

He wasn't the right manager for Argyle long term, and his man management is massively questionable, but his ability to inherit a mess and leave something that functions in a short space of time is quite impressive. He's one of the best crisis gaffers in the game.
