Obviously, like a lot of Supporters, outwardly I'm dismissive of this game as it represents a low tide mark, but inwardly, I'm really looking forward to it. At least a couple of games with a bit of spice.

My first two Devon derby games against city were the two leg league cup matches in '76, and City won both of them. It was the year of the big drought and I remember Paul Mariner struggling with blisters due to the hard ground. Argyle had bought Brian Hall from Liverpool and it looked like Mariner would have another great season with service from the little man, but of course Mariner was gone after a few games, in one of the worst transfer deals by any club I would have thought. Swap deal for Austin and Peddelty from memory and Mariner played for England a matter of weeks later. Imagine how much a player like Mariner would be worth now going from Championship to Prem!
Sorry, I guess that subject must have been debated thousands of times before on these pages! I did see his last goal at home to Cardiff, a day which saw the end of the drought (and the beginning of an entirely different drought for Argyle)

i still regard brian hall as one of the most disappointing signings ever.it promised so much,a current liverpool squad player, his own radio 'phone in and a very intelligent chap,he could hardly do anything right, and if my ailing memory proves me right he later signed for bury.

You’re right. He didn’t do a great deal in the time he was down here. It just shows what different times they were though. It would be like signing Shaqiri today, which puts in perspective where Argyle were then compared to now!

Not sure. Anyone remember Jim Begin down here on loan or Calvin Plummer and let's not forget Terrible West :funny:

I always sit in their main stand because the away end view is dreadful. Got a bit spicey last time when the crowd turned on some Argyle fans from a corporate box who unwisely celebrated our goal. I shall maintain my usual low profile.

That was me when Carey opened the scoring in the 6th minute. Couldn't help me self!

It’s not really for me either.

I always think how far we’ve fallen when we play our six toed brethren.

I don’t like the away game, it’s far too near Tiverton for my liking.

Nor me.

The ground evolved from a pig farm.

I also find it a bit unsettling that grown men happily gathered in a cowshed at the far end of the pitch not that long ago...

Nice little train journey on the Barnstaple express train to Exeter is always good

Then a few beers followed by the police escort to st James Park is always interesting

Never been inside Sid James Park - not going to start now.

I even have to drag myself to Home Park when City are visiting.

As others have said, the fixture brings out the knuckle dragging element of both cities and demonstrates that we have failed (again).

As a relative "newbie" you will obviously not yet be aware of GA 1984's unique style, but, don't worry, I expect it will grow on you as we approach the new season.
