Can anybody enlighten me as to how the term 'Golden Share' originated.

Didn't Jason and some Argonauts go looking for it about 3000 years ago?

I seem to remember seeing something about it in a low-budget independent art-house German movie in the early 1970's... or was that something else? :eh:

Can anybody enlighten me as to how the term 'Golden Share' originated.

It is the share in something - usually a company - that gives you majority voting rights, i.e. >50%. All other shares only give you one vote each and some dividend if you are lucky, but if you hold the golden share then you are in control as nobody can outvote you.

In this context it just means power or control, so the league give you back power over running the club within their system.
