Personally for me no experienced managers really fill me with a huge lot of excitement and I would still be happy for us to take a gamble on a coach (I’ve already stated I would love Andrew Crofts from brighton) or a newish manager like skubala. If we were to hire someone more experienced i genuinely do think Valeri Ismael is a good bet. I know he got sacked from Watford and West Brom but who doesn’t (until Corbrean recently) but he plays attacking football, seems to bring in good foreign players and he got Barnsley into the playoffs with absolutely no budget for this league. His teams are always physical which is something we have seriously lacked this season. To me he is just more appealing than a Pearson
I think Skubala will be off most people's list now. His team lost a game last Saturday😁

Can't see it. He won't be available until potentially mid-July and won't even be able to start planning because he'll be focused on his other job.

I reckon if we go down, we will be going for something along the lines of Lee Johnson with Darren Way as assistant. Darren knows the club and will adapt and blood the youth players and LJ gets another stab at an EFL job. Just a hunch.....

I think it's far more likely that we haven't actually started the search yet because we're focusing on staying up. No-one's even been linked to the job yet.

I get the sense that you might have an inside track on this anthony barry talk ? Is that right ?

Is the common denominator between ian foster and anthony barry that they worked with paul cook ? And would that explain why paul cook was interviewed ( which was disclosed by paul cook himself)?

We have had several 'L' plater' managers in the championship- peter shilton, david kemp, ian foster...none particularly successful, so I'm not sure in what way Barry's appointment would be data- driven, in any sense ( although I think david Kemp would have succeeded in fielding a very competitive side- if he was given the budget which shilton had)...

In regard to barry's press quotes words are one thing but actions are really what counts ( 'fine words dont butter any parsnips')- and experience is what counts, even more, in my view

Its simon Hallett's club and it's his money that hes using to fund it....and that definitely gives him the right to choose who he likes

That doesnt mean that I would be happy to see another 'L plate' manager in charge - no matter how stellar his coaching career- because that doesnt translate into being a successful manager, as brian kidd found out

Tried and tested is best in my view- in the mould of ian Holloway and tony pulis.Perhaps even the return of Shuey might end up being an option, if he ends up getting the chop ?( who I'm sure will be a much better manager now as a result of his experiences at stoke )....
I hate myself for saying this but I’d have Schuey back. He’d be so keen to win people over that he’d try twice as hard if that’s possible, and if he failed then we could all say, ‘you weren’t that good after all’. I knew that he would save Stoke, he inherited a fractured underperforming club with overly high expectations, but his quality showed through in the end. I just don’t see that many quality managers out there, although even though he’d be a bit of a handful, he’s a players manager and that’s Nigel Pearson

From Wiki,
The EFL Championship is the second most-watched second-tier domestic sports league in the World, behind the German 2. Bundesliga (22,224), with an average of 18,787 spectators per game in the 2022–23 season. The Championship is the fifth most watched league in Europe.

We should be attracting some of the best Coaches who are looking for their next step to be in The Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga or Serie A.

We must not sell ourselves short and Uncle Simon and The Board need to be not shy in paying for someone.
We have an awful reputation for doing everything on the cheap.
An outstanding Coach may well take our group of players and turn them in to established excellent Championship players, while bringing on the best of our youth through to the first team.
Hallett won’t be afraid to pay compensation to get the right man, but I’ve looked through all 4 leagues plus the Scottish Premiership and failed to find a credible candidate. Brian Clough famously said, ‘never employ anyone on their way down the ladder, they’ll always feel that they are doing you a favour’, then again look below and where are the managers with proven experience. Apart from his money, I’d hate to be in Halletts shoes. No matter what league we’re in he’s got to get this one right.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I haven't been following this thread, but if I understand correctly, we interviewed three candidates - Foster, Cook, and Barry. What are the odds that a data-driven process threw up three (more) scousers?
Those two from Harry Enfield(calm down, calm down), and anyone that’s ever appeared in Brookside probably.

Bit of a curve ball, but there is another Duff. Damien.
Currently managing Shelbourne in the League of Ireland - top of the premier league after 10 games. (I’d put the LoI at about League 1 level, with a sprinkling of Championship standard players…)

He’s a straight talker, had coaching experience with Neil Lennon at Celtic & was a hell of a player….
Just a thought.
I’d be happy with him

Why are the below candidates not credible? I’m not having a go, I’m interested.

Michael Skubala (Lincoln)
Mike Williamson (MK Dons)
Steven Naismith (Hearts)
Des Buckingham (Oxford)

All 4 would be probably be attainable if we stay up and all 4 are doing well at their respective clubs.
