Foster won’t have been paid his full contract. Likely there will be break clauses for each season and the around performance. At most he will have been paid until the end of the season.

Quite a chunk off whatever Morgans fee is this summer, hasn't looked the same since January s
This idea that Whittaker has been poor since January isn’t right. Up until the Leeds game on 17th February he had scored five goals in the previous six games. So he’s been on a bit of a lean spell for 11 weeks. I’m not sure player valuations fluctuate month by month to the extent that some people on here seem to assume. Yes he’s been off form for a little while, but players inevitably go in and out of form all the time. The fact is he’s scored 20 goals this season, and goals in the Championship are worth serious money.

If the club were smart there would have been a clause in Foster’s contract designed to minimise the financial damage if we had to sack him within 6 months.

Wonder what he'll do now? Will he reflect and learn, perhaps go to a L1 or L2 club to learn his trade? Or just become a coach somewhere. Genuinely interested tbh

I’d be very surprised if he gets an EFL job anytime soon after the way that our players and owner have quite publicly called him out. He’ll go abroad.

Whittaker's less than successful performances after Foster came in coincided with the fact that opposition started to sit up and take notice of him, and decided to put two and sometimes three men onto him when he got the ball, especially as he was being played out wide, and with the fact that our play became more defence minded, and with the loss of Azaz, he therefore became less influential.

If he were to move to a higher team with equally skillful players around him, he would not be so manmarked and would be able to show his skills, especially with players that were on his wavelength, so I don't think his value will have been depreciated by his lack of goals in the latter part of this season.

We got away with it otherwise relegation would have cost us too much to count. May help us in the future to extend our no dickh**£s policy to managers and coaches

Some of the things that should be put into contracts suggested by writers on this thread are out of this world. Who on earth would agree and sign such a contract?

A contract is a two way thing, not to be forced on anyone without their agreement.

You could argue strangely that his appointment will actually save us money in the future. The one real positive with Foster’s tenure is it clearly highlighted what sort of manager/coach we need long term and the lessons that have been learned from appointing Foster should be invaluable. We should now know how important man management, building a strong team is. Argyle is not a cut throat , soulless club with endless analysis of tactics where players live apart. Our DNA and competitive advantage has to be the strong togetherness of the club, that our location as a football outpost gives us.

We will be in a far better position at the end of this season to find that next long term appointment. There are more and probably better candidates available. If Foster had stayed, god knows what mess we would be in for the seasons in terms of players leaving/ recruitment/ staff morale etc. An expensive lesson yes, but in the long run, Foster helped us shine a mirror up at the club and we all (fans, players, the board) all realised what we want and just as importantly don’t want from a leader at our club.

He’s also been selected in the Championship Team of the Season - a tremendous accolade and undoubtedly the best award there is, being voted for by all the players in the league. This fact will keep his value high.
