I wouldn't say Harpers is BARELY adequate.
With the new drainage in place, both pitches are really good especially the top one!!!!!!

I pointed it out to my brother on the way to a game last season and he was horrified, he thought I was taking the mick when I said we actually trained there.

It doesn't put the club in an especially good light to new players if we tell them they'll be training on a run down old field 5 days a week.

If we can find somewhere else then brilliant, the Torquay facility sounds ideal provided the price is right.

Absolutely, a field is a field at the end of the day. Facilities up at Marjons are brilliant but I don't know how much we use them, we did at the start of last pre-season but was that it? I know they use the Life Centre a bit but not sure. Either way it's far from specialist football training facilities.

I think this is positive. As least DA is actually planning on putting the team through some training rather than the previous 'kick about' twice a week.

Lots of teams having training facilities a long way from their match ground. It's completely normal and, indeed, necessary given that there is rarely a lot of spare flat ground within towns/cities where clubs are based.

One interesting side-issue is what could happen to Harper's Park. Who owns Harper's? Could there be some kind of land trade that unlocks more potential for development that could make a new version of Higher Home Park more attractive to investors?

With the number of new proposed developments on the go Doc, why would anyone want to move into parkland?

I would imagine if Harpers Park does get handed back, it would, quite rightly I think, go back to public parkland again.

That's what happened to the zoo, swimming pool and kiddies play park.

Harpers Park is owned by the Council and is Green field.

building a training centre in the bristol area or perhaps even further along the M4 or up the M5 could actually be a fanastic solution to Argyle's age old problem (and probably main reason for underachieving) of attracting players to such an isolated location. Yes, we locals love it, and it is a lovely place to retire but for younger players it doesnt offer the excitement of being close the bigger conurbations and for older players it is too big a move for families . Yes it would be a 2 hour drive down to home park once a fortnight but they would save that on most away games.

Argyle currently lease Harpers Field. It makes complete sense to cancel that agreement and share Torquays facilities and that what I think will happen.

Al - is cancelling a lease agreement THAT easy ?

Just asking like.................

Keep the Faith :scarf:

A lease runs for so many years as stipulated on the agreement.
They can either sell the remaining lease over to someone else (organisation/club etc) or reach a settlement with the council, which may involve paying a fair % of the remaining lease off

With the loss of our academy it makes sense for us to share our training ground, there's a lot of space out there, going to be un-used now. I'm led to understand however, that it's your academy, which is looking to share Seale Hayne and perhaps not your first team.

Does TUFC own Seale-Hayne training ground or do they lease it from someone, if they own it, Argyle would'nt be sharing it with them they would be renting it from them, how much does it cost to rent a few football pitches, changing rooms/showers etc a week.
Also is it big enough for 2 seperate teams to use it at the same time, or would it be TUFC gets it M,W,F, and Argyle get it T, and Th, and the next week visa versa. Maybe if TUFC own it it would be better for Argyle to outright purchase it from them, if there is nothing else available closer to Plymouth.

No, TUFC do not own the training ground, the ground it self, is more than big enough, used to house our first team, now defunct youth team, development squad and academy.
One big problem is the drainage, that work was never completed and prolonged heavy rain can render Seale Hayne unusable, but as said, if what I'm led to believe is correct, it may be only your academy/youth set-up that will sharing the ground
