Apart from Marquis(?) last year did many January signings impact the season that much?
January is no longer the time to be buying players, they're expensive and need time to adjust to the new club. Also, being in the basement division where would be look and who could we buy from? People in our league (unlikely)? Form players in the league below (pricey)? Out of form players in the league above (risky/pricey)? Loaning is probably the most sensible way of utilising any funds but then it depends on who is available and which managers see us as a good place for their young 'uns to develop.
Novel idea I know, but we could look to our "young 'uns " to develop! All already settled locally, know the club, familiar with set ups and regimes, management styles etc. there's half the battle won straight away. Ben Purrington (not for the first time either) has shown that we shouldn't fear giving them a chance of a proper run.
Surely now is also a great time to explore it. Things need shaking up but we cant sign anyone until January. So if people want a change at RB ,why not give Bill Palfrey a go, striker? Surely time for Rooney to get given a run of games?!I hope Fletcher can build on the back of his debut as well and it was nice to see him get given that opportunity. Wingers Battle, aint half bad there and scores 5oals a plenty. Personally I think releasing Callum Hall was short sighted in the extreme. I doubt his wages would have been much to cover, we knew we had a change of rules to the loan system coming in and he could have been playing in the SWPL whilst waiting to see if a break would come his way which might well have been at this very moment in time.
If Palfrey/Rooney/Battle/Fletcher et al, don't do the biz between now and January then fair enough look to bring someone in but why not give them a chance in the meantime?
