To sum it up, Jordan Houghton came to us last season as the Chelsea youth team captain and a veteran of academy level U21 football. He wasn't good enough and was a boy on a man's pitch. He didn't have a bloke's body like Boateng, was too young and too weak and without exceptional technical skill to make up for it. I doubt anyone in our youth team will be any better technically than Jordan Houghton. However the best person to judge that at the end of the day is the manager.

Interesting comment. Just seen that he has played 18 games for Doncaster Rovers, on loan from Chelsea, this season. He has just been nominated for League 2 player of the month for November.

We will see how he performs on Saturday. He got a lot of uncomplimentary comments on here so we will see how he has developed.

Apart from Marquis(?) last year did many January signings impact the season that much?

January is no longer the time to be buying players, they're expensive and need time to adjust to the new club. Also, being in the basement division where would be look and who could we buy from? People in our league (unlikely)? Form players in the league below (pricey)? Out of form players in the league above (risky/pricey)? Loaning is probably the most sensible way of utilising any funds but then it depends on who is available and which managers see us as a good place for their young 'uns to develop.

Novel idea I know, but we could look to our "young 'uns " to develop! All already settled locally, know the club, familiar with set ups and regimes, management styles etc. there's half the battle won straight away. Ben Purrington (not for the first time either) has shown that we shouldn't fear giving them a chance of a proper run.

Surely now is also a great time to explore it. Things need shaking up but we cant sign anyone until January. So if people want a change at RB ,why not give Bill Palfrey a go, striker? Surely time for Rooney to get given a run of games?!I hope Fletcher can build on the back of his debut as well and it was nice to see him get given that opportunity. Wingers Battle, aint half bad there and scores 5oals a plenty. Personally I think releasing Callum Hall was short sighted in the extreme. I doubt his wages would have been much to cover, we knew we had a change of rules to the loan system coming in and he could have been playing in the SWPL whilst waiting to see if a break would come his way which might well have been at this very moment in time.

If Palfrey/Rooney/Battle/Fletcher et al, don't do the biz between now and January then fair enough look to bring someone in but why not give them a chance in the meantime?
Promising kids won't get us out of Division 4.

We signed 16 players in the summer but the failure to replace Reid and Matt has come back to bite us big time.

Because the approach we have been taking has been so successful at getting us out of the fourth division. :problem:

One thing you DONT want to do is bring a few kids in to a losing team. Introduce the odd one when the time is right but not now. You dont seem to grasp the massive difference between SWPL and League 2.

Akinde would require a substantial fee according to barnet fans. A fee that's in nosebleed territory when it comes to what we pay out for players and for what we sell players. I mean any other club would sell purrington for over the odds. Not us. Will we ever learn?

If things go our way we could have a decent size transfer war chest for January.

£27,000 prize money for beating Newport, £36,000 from a possible live TV game v Newport, 45% of gate receipts from the Liverpool game - even more if they kindly donate their share to us, £67,500 prize money for beating Liverpool :) and a percentage of the transfer fee if Conor Hourihane is sold in January.

There's also the £18,000 prize money from the first round win against Mansfield and £200,000 from the Nelson tribunal.

Yeah, we get it.

It seems it was ok for you to talk about who we would get in the second round, Newport or Alfreton, but according to your preachings it's not ok to talk about Liverpool in the third round. You've even thrown in a couple of "ifs".......

Thirded, take nothing for granted.

I'd prefer Alfreton, if we can avoid 'the Westley factor', it should always be preferable. Our players don't need lumps kicked out of them or bookings from being wound up by their antics, even from the depths of the pyramid Alfreton are at, their play will be less 'agricultural'.

Besides if we're going to slip up, i'd sooner a minnow progressed than Westley and his methods.
