Yup, what a coup that was, right under their noses.

What did he say 'I would would have walked to Plymouth from Chorley when I got the call'.

I think poor Yohan Folly was seriously ill and thats why he flopped at Argyle.

By most Championship standards, £200K for Folly and £500K for Maclean is not a huge outlay. Only to Argyle are these figures seen as being large.

When we are talking non-league gems lets not forget Noone, Bolaisie and Mackie.
If Argyle had benefited from their true transfer value we might have had our 20,000 stadium by now.
Sturrock needs a good deal of credit for spotting those players (and Holloway for Ashley Barnes).

Has anyone mentioned Paul Mariner from Chorley in 1973....who scouted him ?
Verdi godwin.
Strange name. Guess thats why his name has stuck all these years.
Sadly passed away in 2013. Note he scouted for waiters in canada as well.

28 goals in 146 games (Wiki) or 29 in 144 (His Missus).
But, helped save people in 800+incidents as a lifeguard on Southport beach. No fatalities! Got the British Empire Medal for that. Also sang and compered in clubs around Southport. Married for 60 years and his wife said he was never serious.
She says that he 'found' Waiters too and scouted for Shankly.
Sounds a character doesn't he!!??
