This is the rumours section so I fully expect this to be shot down in flames... but here goes...
My mum encountered through a work colleague the wife of an Argyle director. She mentioned what was said about Argyle to me...
- The current problems started when Stapleton was forced to step back by Toddy. Stapleton has apparently become quite frustrated with some of the decision made by the board.
- The financial problems are not as bad as some people think, they are being sorted
- The club are considering the future of Peter Reid as they feel he is under performing
- They believe that Ridsdale is the best way for the club to get out of the current problems.
Strange,i thought our problems started when Stapes was in charge.It wasn't Mrs Stapleton talking to your mum,was it?
Yes, he was guilty of not having millions to pump into the club, he was guilty of the fans not turning up to support the best team in decades, he was guilty of having fans like you that are too dim to realise that those times you are dissing him for are the best we are likely to see in a long long while.
Could we blame him for the World Cup bid not being won as well?
Of course i don't blame him for not being rich enough.What i do blame him for are the following;
a.For not seeking further investment when it was clear that the current regime could not take the club further,as evidenced by Mr Gill in his resignation letter.If that investment had been sought,then maybe we would have got through a potential promotion/play off season without having to sell five of our best players halfway through.And our gates were hardly at Blackpool's level,were they? The same Blackpool who now sit in a pretty good position in the premiership.
b.For bringing the New World to the club to further the property development angle and allowing the cumbersome,unwieldy structure of major shareholders to be implemented,which was bound to cause power struggles and adversely affect decision making.The property development theory is certainly not a figment of my imagination-did it not cause the resignation of Peter Jones,Nic Warren and the late Michael Foot? If you suggest that you know better than those three worthies,then i bow to your superior knowledge,it just strikes me that they were in a slightly better position than you to make a judgement.
c.The obsession with bringing Sturrock back to the club.
I certainly don't need lectures from you about bad times at Home park.I was there when Argyle had the lowest crowd in their history, and in a far worse position playing wise, as a matter of fact,not that i'm especially proud of that.As a fan of god knows how many years,i'm well aware that the club has enjoyed sporadic success,to say the least,and yes,i was grateful for the early years under Stapes,some of the best times i've ever seen at Home park.What galls me is that they could have lasted so much longer and for the fact that didn't,then the person at the top must be accountable to at least a certain extent.He took praise for his contribution to the halcyon years,rightly so,to me it's only fair that he gets criticised for at least playing a part in the shambles currently on display.For your information,before the world cup bid was announced,i didn't even give it a thought as far as Plymouth was concerned and after the announcement was made today,that state of mind has been resumed.
There,a point of view all without a personal insult.
