I'm late to the party this week but here is my table...

It is all about our results and Rochdale's results now.

At the top it looks like Hull and Peterborough are going to get over the line but our next three fixtures - Charlton, Oxford and Sunderland - are pretty crucial for all three opposition teams as far as earning a play-off place is concerned. I think Gillingham will be out of it by the time we play them for our final fixture.

It would be nice if we could hold our current league position or perhaps even overtake Crewe and win the mini-league of the promoted teams. My fear is that we will drop below both Burton and Shrewsbury and perhaps even below Wigan and Wimbledon.

The bit that disappoints me is that we are 56 goals behind Hull.

Hi Doc, I know it's painful but any chance of an update following last night's debacle? I'm hearing conflicting info regarding Rochdale's and our own chances of relegation - it would be nice to see it on your chart.

Here it is:

Rochdale's lighter shaded blue bar can sill reach further right than Argyle's solid shaded green bar so they can still overtake us - as can Wigan, Wimbledon, Shrewsbury and Burton. After Rochdale, Wigan are the next closest team for us to keep an eye on. Like us, they have three games left and we need a four point swing on them to guarantee that the finish below us. We need a two point swing to be safe from Rochdale. It's worrying that after last night's debacle both Rochdale and Wigan have better goal difference than us (+3 and +2 respectively) which is effectively worth an extra point to them.

Remaining fixtures for those two are:

Wigan: Burton (H), Hull (A), Swindon (H)
Rochdale: Crewe (A), Wimbledon (A), Doncaster (H), MK Dons (A)

It's still most likely that Rochdale will drop a couple of points somewhere in those four games but I've just found myself wondering what odds I could get on them winning all of those games and us losing all of ours (as an insurance policy against the worst case scenario - actually the absolute worst-case scenario is that we lose two and draw one and Rochdale win four but send us down on goal difference...)

A tenner on that would return Fifteen Thousand pounds !!!

Would you accept that money in exchange for relegation ? Or choose the option to lose a ten pound bet in exchange for survival?

I know many "Argyle till I die merchants" would say no way keep the money, but would they or you really say no?

It would be fascinating if Pasoti did a poll on that to see who would take the money.

You are right as usual, i rushed to get this done as i was so happy we were safe. Will fix.

It is clear; we will finish in 20th position and poor old Dale will go down. I so hope that I am wrong and that Dale stuff the Wombles and survive.

I think Wimbledon will overtake us but Wigan probably won't - sixth or fifth from bottom of the league beckons. Thanks goodness that the first couple of months of the season were reasonably good and we picked up some points in the early part of 2021.

There are only two teams in the league with worse goal difference than ours and they have both already been relegated. There is only one team that has conceded more goals than us.

Updated to include last night's fixtures. Peterborough are nearly up (one more point needed and they play Lincoln, the only team that can catch them, on Saturday). Wimbledon are nearly safe (one more point needed).
