The turnaround last season started before Lameiras was introduced into the team in December. In the 8 league games before Lameiras started against Oldham we won 4 and drew 2, usually with Fox and Songo'o as two sitting midfielders to make the team solid.

I reckon there were four phases last season that changed our results. 1: Diagouraga playing in the team and getting forward, 2: a solid base of Songo'o and Fox, 3: Lameiras coming into the team and 4: the Taylor, Carey, Lameiras partnership.

Songo'o was unlucky to be dropped last season, it might be worth going back to Songo'o and Fox sitting deep this season.

Fundamental point of order here but setting up so negatively to defend for 90 minutes when you can't defend for toffees seems a flawed tactic IMHO.

We are better as an offensive team more so this year than last because we are so bad at the back so it can't be long until DAs stubbornness is worn down by defeat after defeat just like Xmas last year when he changed tactics.

We went from the worse team in the league to the best once he gave in.

The difference this year is that we are so poor at the back we will still concede and lose games even in a purple patch

Can you please tell me what the change of tactics was after Xmas last season, which led to the changearound?

Playing with two number tens I believe DA termed it.

Playing Lameiras and Carey in the same side is a high risk strategy and leaves us exposed without a solid base in CDM.

You have to get the balance and personnel right.

Fox song Carey and Lameiras haven't played together this year.

DA is getting desperate and knows he is in big trouble already despite his arrogant demeanour

He got lucky finding the right formula last year but I somehow doubt he will be so lucky this year especially given our defensive inability.

Bottom line is we had a decent defence last year and this year it's diabolical.

No amount of skill from Lameiras and Carey will make up for this.

Here is hoping for finishing 20th and not going down winless with a humiliating points total with the shitty replacing us

Can we please stop this rubbish about our fortunes changing around once we went more attacking?

It simply isn’t true. We stopped the rot with solid, ground out displays in October and November against Shrewsbury, Rochdale, Wimbledon and others.

THEN we built on that confidence and solidity by introducing Lameiras and a new formation, roughly from the Oldham home game onwards.

It was a gradual process, rather than an overnight turnaround or plain luck as some are suggesting.

A fair point that Biggs, still doesn't excuse or explain the way we're starting though, the vast majority of other teams start on the opening day, we don't seem to until a few months in at least, and surely that can only come down to squad overhauls & below par pre seasons. We can't waste a few months and play catch up every season, at some point, maybe this season, maybe not, it'll bite us and we won't recover.
