I watched England - Sweden on the Hoe in 2002. After about 20 mins a thick sea fog rolled in and the majority of the crowd couldn't even make out the screen. Very bad timing.

Brizzle, Leeds, Manchester, Leicester, London are the agreed and well publicised trials working with the fifa sponsors and local budgets.

But I'd have thought that a big effort was required to win the Bid. If that demands big investment, then invest big.

Agreed with Mr Jones. - So it would be good if we all do our bit to encourage government and business to support it.

Some of the knocking and criticism on here and in the press surely can't help in any way shape or form with finding the budget or impressing FIFA!!

This hasn't ended up going so well. Queens Square filled to capacity according to H&S last Saturday for the England vs. USA Match, with about an hour to go they stopped allowing people in. Many of those outside didn't take this well and parts of the fence were damaged.

Meanwhile inside, there was only one bar open which ran out of almost everything including pint glasses, there were reports of some trouble and drunken behaviour.

Now all England matches will be ticket only and there will be a ban on all alcohol, although they're removing all the fencing to make better use of the space, it's hard to see how they will police this both in terms of numbers and people drinking.
