I think he can turn it around from January, when he shores up the defence with loan players. It's true replacements weren't anywhere near the standard we let go. Whether it's too late or not only time will tell. The defending at Oxford was pathetic on both goals and other situations. A horrendous error by Edwards, really a horror one that to let it roll under his foot when the immediate need there was get rid. And not for the first time this season a statuesque defence for the second. We ''made'' them work that goal like Barcelona, backed off and let them walk it in, didn't mark, didn't tackle. Te lack of defending ability is obviously the over-riding issue and while that presents so many difficulties the attack is being overlooked somewhat. I don't even think it's defensive cohesiveness, it's the fact that individuals are just not good enough. That's the worry. Ladapo for me never looks composed in front of goal and his goals to games ration is not good. Taylor being ruled out is crucial to our effectiveness at that end. But through it all, we really don't have managerial options that people are bandying about. We have to suffer and see.

Ladapos goal to games ratio is better than Taylor’s.

I was interested to read in the paper this morning that the Luton Town manager Nathan Jones is being suggested as a possible appointment for Brentford after their manager left for Aston Villa. That's the Nathan Jones who was a highly regarded young coach at Brighton who (I think) we turned down in favour of appointing Derek Adams...

I’ve always thought Nathan Jones was a decent manager.

Nathan Jones wouldn't have achieved much with us in my opinion. He's consistently demanded a large budget at Luton, not convinced he could have worked with such a small time club like Argyle.

MR Biggs, read a lot of your posts but that sentance ,we only got to be average to survive is sad. That your happy to see your team possibly win a few games a season, serving up terrible football but survive, is a very weak reason for me and the wife to travel up,buy season tickets and waste time if that is all we can expect.

I agree , I don’t think we should just be surviving in L1. We should be mid table, anything above that is punching above our weight.

I'm not happy with it, but clearly we'd all take that now before pushing ahead with the new grandstand facilities and a focused boardroom next season.

It's a bit surreal how nightmarish this season is becoming, I'd rip your hand off for average

Biggs ,I think you are in the minority. Not sure how many years you have been supporting Argyle but for me the current squad of players in amongst the weakness I have ever witnessed at Home Park .When you have "green blood" it it sad to see your team striving to be average. We deserve better and IMHO Adams should go .

Very happy being in the minority, but average to me is 10-15th which I'm pretty sure we'd all kill for right now.

Bearing in mind he hasn't walked, been given the boot/given the vote of confidence! Who would you want to take over a club with limited or no budget?
Implications for him leaving..players he's bought in would also jump ship..see where its going? So re-structure the team, re-motivate the team!
Who is out there that could turn this ship around and moving in the right direction...?

Genuine question..what are your thoughts?

Would you have Holloway back?
Who is currently out of a job and would fit the bill as a motivational/inspiring manager?

The past 16 games don't tell lies..2 wins in that sequence isn't good enough..

Wo wo wo!!! Yes Hollway certainly a class act but do you seriously think this Board will pay off the rest of Adam's contract and support a manager that would demand a high wage. This will not happen. We would end up with Wotsie or Kevin Hodges and though I have every respect for these guys we would also leak our best players to Adams , Carey etc, I can see us back to square one! Fighting for football league status

I’m pretty sure we could afford Ian Holloway if we wanted him and he wanted us.

No thanks don't want that treacherous lying weasel anywhere near my club, he had his chance.

I think we need to grow up about Holloway, he left us for what he thought was a better opportunity, as many of us in our careers would have done (even if we profess loyalty to our current employer - who doesn't?). He has since admitted it was a mistake. He was a good fit for the club and had teams playing entertaining and successful football. His particular talent was attracting decent players to the club where location sometimes makes this difficult. People want to play for him. He would also raise the profile of the club again.

Forget how he left us, why do you want Holloway in footballing terms? He was playing entertaining and successful football because he had the likes of Scott Sinclair, Peter Halmosi, Akos Buszaky, Dan Gosling, Lilian Nalis etc etc. And in a completely different division, over a decade ago.

How unimaginative and backwards looking do you have to be, to be unable to look beyond Ian bloody Holloway?

Really bizarre.

Fine, we may think Holloway is not the right man for the job (I actually think he could be) but my point is more that lets not let resentment over a career decision he made a decade ago be the reason not to consider him.

This thread sums up a big part of the problem. Between 30+ different posters and 9 pages, there's been one reasonable suggestion (Gary Bowyer). Giving this squad and situation to a rookie (Chadwick, Coughlan) would be suicidal.

Most people would have sacked Adams this time last year and we finished two games from the playoffs. Whilst that won't reoccur this year, we're not exactly littered with sparkling options to take the helm in his place.

- I am quite grown up thanks,

Holloway's not an option for several reasons:

1. He still gets jobs at Championship level. To sign for a club that's lower L1 / probably L2 next season would be a bizarre career move. He can afford to be a bit more picky.

2. His record of fire-fighting is patchy to say the best. Teams that are heading down when he arrives tend not to change.

3. Every move involves having to find specialist schools for some of his children. That's a pain in the arse he really doesn't need.

4. He certainly doesn't need the pressure of still being a pariah to some at HP. Start his tenure slowly and the knives will already be out. Start it badly and there'll be a division between those fans who say we should give him more time, and those who say he should never have been given time at all. And goodness knows we don't need any more divisions right now.

Even if Holloway did want to come back (and unemployment aside, I can't for the life of me imagine why), I don't think now's the time. If he wants the job he should submit a CV like everybody else, he's certainly not one we should be approaching.
