just for the record and to put a bit of balance on this discussion .....Portsmouth have sold 12,000 season tickets....

Former Premier League club and FA Cup winners with a core fanbase of around 15,000 outsell us, now there's a shocker.

I'm not quite sure what your point is Oddball. Our numbers will always look small if you compare us to an unachievable target, it's not balance simply a poor choice in comparator.

6,000 is very good for a club of our size, it shows significant growth on last year and proves that we are going in the right direction again. Pompey although our division rivals are out of our league fanbase wise, there's no comparison to be had.

Just to update you Pompey have now sold over 14,000 Season Tickets for the coming season`s games!

That's a very good return, I'm glad to see another great club back on the rise again.

There's still zero value in comparing with each other though as we're clubs with entirely different histories that create a huge gap in our core fanbases.

Until we've hit the big time like you and given the fickle of Plymouth reason to commit to Argyle we will never live up to your attendances, I don't see why the likes of Oddball have even brought Pompey into this.

I presumed Oddball was a Portsmouth supporter. Not so?

Made I laugh. Just comparing one promoted team with another.like for like, in that respect. There was a time when we had 12000 season ticket holders and not that long ago either,so 5000 is nothing to get too excited about.

Gonad!

Apologies if I am wrong but I thought it was closer to 10,000 total memberships?

I agree - I don't remember it quite reaching five figures, I was going to say 9000+.
And JJ's 'total memberships' is a significant distinction too. Didn't that include white memberships and Pilgrim memberships?

So it really didn't equate to 9k season ticket holders. I felt at the time that including those who hadn't purchased a single ticket, effectively just a membership card and a last foot in the door before general sale was a bit 'smoke and mirrors', be that by accident or design.

HI all, was just looking at your site to see what players you have signed and stumbled across this thread. looking positive for you guys this season, especially keeping carey. can see you challenging for top 6. pompey I'm not so sure - a top 10 finish I would take while we are building off the pitch.

season ticket sales, well we have just broken through the 14,000 mark - and are aiming for 15,000 season tickets sold this season, which is just tremendous. an awful lot of fans here worried they wont be able to get in now! (which is why a bigger stadium is a must now).

I see your s a selling pretty well too. IN terms of comparisons no need to get too much in to that - but good luck for the season ahead, really looking forward to it.
Good luck to you guys also. You happy with Jackett? I've always liked him, builds good solid teams and a good track record of getting teams promoted to the championship which bodes well. Looks like he could do with getting a few new players in but think he likes a certain type so will bide his time.

When Argyle were promoted to the CCC it was the first season that Argyle introduced green, orange and white memberships, the take up was mostly green memberships with a few orange memberships and a sprinkling of white memberships. It was lauded as a complete success at the time as green memberships topped 12000,which explained the very high attendances we were getting at the time, with over 20,000 watching a home game against Leeds, and a season's average of 16,500.Green memberships peaked at that time and then fell steadily away.

I think average attendance for games in the coming season will be around the 9,000-10,000 mark, based on Season ticket sales so far.

Yes very happy with Jacket thanks. He seems a very level headed and decent manager, who invests in youth. no complaints with cook, but he had one brand of football and no plan B which I often found very frustrating, and which you guys took full advantage of!!. Jacket is a manager who adapts teams to the circumstances so looks good. Yes we need a few players in, but all very very relaxed so far.

He always sounds like a level headed and decent man when you hear him on TV or radio.

Jacket has a habit of getting teams out of League 1. I imagine he will do the same with Pompey.

However, in the championship, he still has something to prove. Allbeit he was with clubs who may not of had the resources to compete.

If Pompey sign well, l would say they will at least make a playoff spot given what he has done at L1 level in a short space of time.

Having lost Cook though l think you have lost a great manager. You may think he has no plan B but his plan A is a decent brand of football. We both played 4-2-3-1 last year effectively enough to win promotion. Our away form was terrific. Yet one think that seemed the difference was the width that your attacking full backs provided in the system, especially at home. Something Adams l'm not sure gets because of our lack of pace in that area.

This year we seemed to have brought in a number of wide options. Inconsistent, but yet pacey, tricky players, who hopefully will take the burden off Carey a little to always provide. This will hopefully help us break down teams more at home.

Both teams should have a solid season but it may turn into something much better if either or both Managers get their signings right.

Think he will do well for you, see you have signed Holmes-Dennis on loan, he played for us a couple of seasons ago. Wasn't great for us but you could see there was potential there, think he also suffered from comparisons to Andy Kellet who was superb for us whereas Holmes-Dennis was ok.

Yes Holmes-Dennis is an interesting one. I guess he was what, only 18 when he was loaned to you? he seems to have improved a lot and the clubs he has been at since have rated him. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Certainly Jacket was watching him in the championship last season. the good thing about this season is we have no expectations really. New management team in so mid table security is fine for me first season, but second season it will be a different story.

Yeah and as I say, whilst he was average for us you could see there was a player there so a few years on I'm sure he will be better. Think Jackett will do well for you, good luck!

We played THD as a left wing back. He seemed far more comfortable as a straight forward left back on the odd occasion we used wingers with Sheridan. He was very young, first season as a full pro(?). I wasn't the biggest fan, but you could see potential.
