Comparison to Previous Seasons

The Liverpool match could be a watershed for this season. Very iffy form after October (again) but should gain huge confidence from being able to execute a game plan against a very big club. Whatever the result on Weds night, I can see this confidence feeding into league matches. Must admit at Christmas my gut feeling was that we were heading to the play offs, but now feeling a bit happier. In fairness, aside from Doncaster everyone else is looking jittery. The only worry is the number of visits to promotion chasing sides between now and May, having played nearly all of them at home already.

I don't think we have more ability than last season but are less reliant on certain players who were prone to injury and loss of form. We are also a bit tougher and more resilient this season - football less pretty but more gutsy.

Luke a key factor - he suffered a big loss of form in the last third of the season last year - no reason why that should happen again.

Funnily enough I was looking at those same stats from last season earlier this evening. I'm quietly confident we'll get the points we need this time. There are a number of reasons for this. I believe this team has more heart and character and despite the injuries we have a deeper squad with more options available to mix things up. I also feel Adams has learnt a lot from our shortcomings during the second half of last season and won't make the same mistakes again. The return of Spencer and Brunt will be huge too
We won't see Spencer and Brunt until March at the earliest.

If we are serious about promotion we have £1 million of unbudgeted income and we have to strengthen now; I'm sure Adams and Brent know that.

Extending Tanner and Garita is not strengthening, it's just consolidating what we already have.

We need 2 more quality signings as well.

Indeed but the past couple seasons we have been In good positions at the turn of the year only to see loan players go back and miss vital weeks in january when they are needed. Holding on to what we use is to me the most important part.

Apart from the Liverpool replay there is no comparison in the strength and options we have on the bench this season compared to last season either.

Also to end up the same as last year our last 20 games would need to give us a return of 7 wins, 6 draws and 7 defeats and that would be a pretty spectacular collapse in form - let us all hope we can continue with the consistancy shown so far!

Bollox to the comparisons.

Different teams, different players, different budgets, different circumstances.

Forgot everything else. Focus on what we're doing today

03/04...did we have a poor run from here???Was this because of Sturrock leaving us for Southampton about now?

Not disastrous but not great. The next three games are lose draw lose, and overall for the rest of the season it was W9, D4, L5 to finish with 90 points

Luggy didn't move til the start of March, after game 40

Looking at the gaps we gave less of a gap this year on 4th most important we take a point next week

The gap is 9 points the same as last year, but this year we have played 1 less game than the team in 4th.

It is always interesting comparing positions/points from seasons gone by. There are always runner's from the pack who make the late charge for promotion. Last season it was Rovers for the auto's and, as we all know , AFC for the pay offs. This season could it be Exeter for the auto's and Mansfield for the playoffs?

For the run in, the big difference for us will be the January transfer signings. A couple of the players who have come in during this transfer window, have been getting Div 1 wages so some of our newly acquired money has been thrown at this. I personally think they are very good signings who will see us over the line. Time will tell but I'm feeling a bit more confident this time around.
