Thanks for info, John. Ticket bought - I didn't fancy the several train changes, so handy to know there's a chance of parking somewhere near. Cheers!

Got tickets yesterday - shall be my first view of the Greens this season - bloody kids!!!
Sadly Adam, it'll be your first view of the lilacs

With their gates are our travelling support, especially in and around London, there's every chance there will be more Argyle fans in attendance than Town fans*. Certainly atmosphere wise it'll be a home game.

With green and white not clashing with red there's no reason in practicality why Argyle couldn't grant us Argyle fans what should be a given...watching our team in our team's colours on every possible occasion.

The two kits caused no problem together at Home Park so the only thing that would prevent us using our proper kit on Saturday is bleddy commercialism :furious:

* anyone know how ticket sales are going?, I must admit I am surprised not to have heard already that we've asked for more than the initial allocation...we took 1,400 in the depths of administration, surely it must be more now

A good summary of Crawley pubs there by John E. I’ve lived in the area all my life (and drunk in local pubs for much of that time) , so perhaps I can offer a few additional pointers ?

Sussex towns are almost always a disappointment in terms of pubs, and Crawley is no exception. The High Street pubs like “The White Hart” are probably the best bet in the town for real ale drinkers (it’s a Harveys House) but you’re the other side of the railway line there, and the station is a good walk to the ground in any event. I’ve not ventured into the pubs near the ground in recent years but Southgate, Broadfield and Bewbush are not the greatest of areas. “The Goffs Park” is safe enough and family friendly, but is really an eating place rather than a somewhere to drink. It’s all pretty soul destroying. Even Luton and Gillingham have one good pub, but Crawley seems almost without hope to me.

So, if you’re on the train, I’d simply head to the club bar as suggested.

If you have a car, things are a lot better. There’s some cracking country pubs within a few miles, many of which are easy to access from the M23 (if you’re coming down from the M25) or the A23 (if you’re coming along the A27 coast road and up from Brighton) – and so easy to get to the ground afterwards.

Try “The Red Lion” in Turners Hill http://www.redlionturnershill.com/ which is a good all-rounder (15 mins max to parking at the ground) or “The Jolly Tanners” in Staplefield http://jollytanners.com/ for good beer and friendly locals. The Sussex Greens and friends will be putting in an appearance at the latter from noon , I’m currently in negotiations to get pasties on the menu. It’s an 8 minute drive to the ground.

Enjoy your day in Sussex :stout:

I really don't understand this obsession with playing in green. It is not as if it has been the same shade over all the years. I wear green at home and lilac away just as I did the tangerine all those years ago.

We have played much better this season in lilac so I will be wearing that on Saturday and then Tuesday and then back to green the following Saturday.

My car is on its last legs, getting a new one on March 1st, so it is train for me on Saturday.

Thanks for the info.

By the way my non love affair with green does not make me an inferior supporter just a non obsessed one.

Each to their own. It's universally accepted though that apart from it's name and where it comes from, a clubs colours are what distinguishes them a club. I'd dispute that upholding that fundamental principle of a club's tradition and identity makes anyone "obsessed"...but if you think it does feel free to paint me green and call me king of the obsessed.

You want to wear your lilac shirt then carry on...that's the beauty of terraces, you can move away from people

That's all well and good, but as it's my second away game of the season, what about places for a bit of 'Crawley Culture'?

I believe an expedition was sent out in search of that mythical beast some years ago, nothing has been heard from them since.

The search goes on :tumbleweed:

Heads up on Crawley away.....( I live there )
For Clarke B
Town has 2 railway stations, Crawley & Three Bridges.

Crawley Train Station has an bus station opposite. Very frequent bus service direct to the Stadium ,every five to ten minutes. Take the Fastway service number 10, £2 I think, and its about a ten minute journey to the ground. Same for the return journey.

Walk to the stadium ( 20 minutes) is turn left out of the station, stay parallel to the railway line (on your left) until the level crossing. over the crossing into Brighton Road, The Railway pub on your left , continue up the road over, past the New moon pub on the left , ground is accessed under the main road by subway.
Alternatively, turn right out of station, past the night clubs to the traffic lights ( major junction) turn right into Southgate avenue and continue to follow the road for about a mile to the stadium.

Three Bridges Station is the busiest station, commuter crossroads to the south/south east, very busy on a Saturday with supporters from all range of clubs travelling through the station, Sussex supporters of Millwall, Brighton, Palace, Arsenal, Chelsea, the lot.....sometimes a flashpoint so normally plenty of BTP about. . The Fastway bus is the Number 20 from bus stop C....runs to the stadium every 15 mins. Alternatively to get a taxi from outside the station, £8-10!!, don't think about walking as it would take 45/60 minutes on a good day!!!!
The Snooty Fox is a pub decent sized and directly opposite the Station, football friendly, Sky sports and food. Opens at 10 am

Other Pubs........

In the High Street ( five/ten minute walk from Crawley Station, 30 minute walk to the ground ) there is four within 20 yards of each other,

Jubilee Oak ( Spoons) opens at 8 am !!!! Food Served

White Hart (Harveys) opens 11-30 am Food Served

Brewery Shades open 10-10.30 am Food Served

The Punchbowl Opens 11 am Food served

from the High Street over the level crossing into Brighton Road,

The Railway 20 mins from ground Opens Midday Food Served

The New Moon is further up the road and visible from the ground which is a 2 minute walk,
Sky sports, pool table, Opens Midday Food Served

At the stadium the Redz bar, CTFC Social club is normally open to away support, might be worth checking with the club prior to the match. Opens Midday ( Loads of GA in there last time we played here ) Sky/BBC sports

also there is;

The Downsman on Southgate Drive about 10 minute walk from the ground Opens midday, Sky/BBC Sports, pool tables Food Served, close to fast food ,bookies and local shops

The Grasshopper, used to be my local, on Ashdown Drive in Tilgate, again 10/15 minute walk to the ground , Opens midday , Sky/BBC sports, pool tables , again next door to takeaway outlets, bookies and shops.

If travelling by car there is very limited parking at the stadium and tow-away zones on the main roads around the ground and in the K2 leisure centre nearby. you would have to find street parking in Tilgate or Southgate.

Win our next two games and we could sell our allocation and no doubt we would get more if the demand is there, as X Ilse said we could/should even outnumber the home support.

I would be very surprised if anyone had any problems in the pubs I have mentioned, however they possibly might if they really go looking for it........ and I never heard of any crowd trouble whatsoever at the stadium, most of the locals follow London clubs or BHA , Crawley attendances are dire.
