Am I the only one who cannot understand the hashtag graph, and not afraid to ask someone to explain it.

I don't understand it either.

I suspect most people reading PASOTI don't understand it to be honest.

How to read Doc's hashtag thingy:

black hashes - number of points over 40.
grey hashes - maximum number of points the team can achieve.

Everything lines up, so when our team's line of black hashes reaches beyond another team's line of grey hashes, they can't catch up.

It's just a visual representation of OG's table, really.

So let's use Grimsby as an example. They currently have 52 points so we give them 12 black hashes.

############

They can achieve another 21 points, so we add on 21 grey hashes. And we'll do the same for Argyle underneath.

################################# Grimsby
######################################################## Argyle

As you can see, our black hashes (points achieved) stretches beyond Grimsby's maximum pointage. Hence, they cannot catch us.

Are 9 points required for promotion or have I got that wrong ? I'm hopeless at this sort of thing.

They kept saying on the telly that we need 4 wins.

Today we need 3. This is correct.

Here's the top four assuming everybody wins the next 3 games:

Doncaster 87
Argyle 84
Portsmouth 78
Stevenage 71

A 13-point gap with 4 games to go.

Three more wins and we're there.

But let's go for seven anyway.

It's not possible for each of those teams to win their next three games.....because our third game is away to Portsmouth.

According to my calculations...If we beat Accrington then promotion is possible at Crawley. Stevenage would need to lose one of their next two games (or draw both) and Luton and Blackpool not win both. And they have to play each other, so a draw there would be perfect. Exeter and Carlisle can't catch us if we win our next two games.

Is that right ? Promotion in Sussex ?

Yup. 3 wins (or 2 wins and 3 draws) and we are guaranteed promotion.

Realistically, we might not need all 9 points!!

When they say we need 3 wins to guarantee promotion, it could be only 2 wins

Argyle are on 75 points and Stevenage are on 62, so if we win our next 3 we would have 84 points and the maximum Stevenage can get if they won all remaining 7 games they can only get to 83 points, therefor we would be guaranteed promotion

BUT if we win our next 2 games and Stevenage lose ONE of their next 2 games, we would have 81 points and the max they could get is 80
