Echoes of 84? Remember we beat Newport with a late Tommy Tynan Penalty (was it a replay?) before going on to beat a Premier/First Division side, West Brom away.
It was on a tour to Poland or some such east European country where we played a warm-up to a cycle race, crowd was 120,000.Pezbuck":1ql5sgut said:My own answer -59424 at the Emirates.. Before that?!

Either that or away to Boca Juniors on tour when Moses Russell caused a riot.
You are obviously forgetting we played in front of 57000 just last season. But the match was instantly forgettable!!!Pezbuck":1d4sgpx8 said:One for the stattos! Assuming there is a capacity crowd of 54,000 at Anfield, when was the last time Argyle played in front of a bigger crowd, or will this be in fact the biggest?
The question didn't stipulate a competitive game. Besides, after Moses smacked in that penalty the rioting was pretty darn 'competitive' by the sound of it :lol:Balham_Green":1huwa33v said:X Isle":1huwa33v said:It was on a tour to Poland or some such east European country where we played a warm-up to a cycle race, crowd was 120,000.Pezbuck":1huwa33v said:My own answer -59424 at the Emirates.. But in competitive games? Did we play at the old Valley? There were nowhere near 59000 at The Emirates that day by the way. Lots of empty seats in home end as the prawn sandwich brigade didn't think we were worth their valuable time.

I have no idea about the South American games. But in terms of competitive games then 5 of the six top attendances to watch Argyle play were in London. Arsenal in January 1932 was 65386, the only time we have played in front of more than 60000. !0 years and 11 months earlier 59871 had turned out for an FA Cup game against Chelsea. Then comes the 59424 for the Emirates game in 2009. Next is even more recent - this year's 57956 for the disastrous play-off final.
Next comes a second visit to Stamford Bridge when 53704 filed in to watch Chelsea beat us 4-1 in the FA Cup 4R. Finally, we have the sixth over 50,000 crowd for a 6-1 defeat at Newcastle in August 1947. My thanks to GoS - the other Steve must be having a well deserved day off.
