He took charge of the joke EFL trophy final last week.

It strikes me that the Appointer has not shown a great deal of common sense. If this was a Premier fixture we would have seen the League's best referee. I fear for the outcome.

Surely being given a Wembley Cup Final would suggest that the EFL think that he is the best referee in the league.

Maybe he just had an off day at Home Park but presumably the assessor didn't think he was bad.

We're all entitled to an off day and he certainly had one on that Tuesday night but, in fairness, I thought that, generally, he officiated well on Friday.

He made a few mistakes that are always likely to be highlighted on live TV. The free kick incident that could have resulted in a Pompey penalty was interesting because, first, it should not have been a free kick because Carey won the ball cleanly and ,second, Sarcevic did raise his arm and Sarginson could easily have awarded a penalty.
