Updated after Tuesday 25th February games. There's now a bit of distance between the top 5 and the next few teams down (5 points and a game in hand). Port Vale are in good form (DWWWD) and look well placed to challenge Colchester (LWLLW) and Northampton (LLLWL) for a play-off berth. As far as the top 5 are concerned, Cheltenham and Crewe have the best form (LWWWW and WWWLW respectively), then Swindon (LWDWW), then Exeter (LWWWL) and then Argyle (LWWDD). The two recent draws have really cost us - we'd be second on goal difference if we'd won both games which, arguably, we should have done... Obviously the next three games are huge - a tricky away game (Bradford) and then two home games (Grimsby and Macclesfield) that we really do need to be winning if we are going to challenge for automatic promotion. Unfortunately, Grimsby are in reasonable form now (DWWLW) and seem to have started scoring goals if last night is anything to go by...

Great stuff. Just a suggestion, but how about 'Greying' out each Club that can no longer catch us ? Admittedly it's only Stevenage at the moment but it's always satisfying crossing them off :)

Nice idea, like this you mean...

I'd like to incorporate goal difference somehow, but haven't identified a neat method to do so yet.

Doc, I'm not sure you can include goal difference in this, on the basis that, even the future is based on fact (three points for a win).
In theory, a team (like Argyle) could get 36 goals in a game, which upsets the whole shebang.

Could indicate GD by putting a * or something at the end of the row, although would probably better to just limit it to GD vs Argyle.

So Maybe + means they have better GD and a - means worse?

That’s the kind of thing I was thinking but I want to automate it and not have to put them all in manually. That might be tricky - it’s only Excel after all - but I’ll have a play this afternoon maybe.

Now with added goal difference figures next to the team names:

league2_0229.png

It's beginning to look like there are 9 teams in the promotion/play-off race (although I guess Salford might be able to sneak in) and so it's significant that we still have home games against three of these (Exeter, Northampton and Port Vale). Cheltenham are on a fantastic run and have put themselves right into the automatic promotion mix. Exeter have wobbled slightly but are hanging on. We're definitely still in with a chance of automatic promotion but obviously the two home games in the week ahead will be absolutely crucial.

Quite like this GD, but is it worth doing it relative to Argyle rather than their totals?

10 games to go and we hit the automatic promotion places...

Morecambe can no longer catch us; Scunthorpe and Mansfield are the next in line to go grey.
